ok, so I got this new Lincoln mig 180HD on the mark down table at Home depot for 340 bucks which everyone says is a good deal. Course it was missing some items like the gauge, hence the mark down. But the question is ( I tried for hours to search this out) (Here and on the welding forums) to no avail. I can't seem to get the cable feeder, sheath in the all the way, it just squirts out with the wire when you apply the trigger. I can see it thru the side of the mechanism, but it just doesn't seem to bottom out? I've got no idea about this equipment since I'm new to it, and my manual doesn't get into this. The tensioner nut on the side is all the way out to give it plenty of room. Sorry, not off to a very good start on learning how to use this thing! Any help would be appreciate. Thanks
on my miller and hobart it just slides in and attaches with a thumb screw i believe. the liner is adjustable and usually pushed and twists in, it may need trimmed off a bit. good luck hope i didn't misread your question.
You should have a tip in the end of tha gun. The liner bottoms out on the tip. There may be a set screw in the lead at the end that attaches to the machine. All manuals and instructions are available from Millers web site. might be miller.com not sure of the url but they are there. Good luck
You mean the whole thing is coming out? Or just the cable sheath inside the gun/housing? The whole enchilada gets secured with a wing bolt inside right near the drive wheel. Right below the electrical connections for the trigger. If it's there, loosen it up until the end of the housing (with the O-rings on it) slides all the way in and then tighten it up to lock it in. Hope this helps. Nice machine, BTW. I have an earlier version of it and I'm very happy with it.
Hey thanks for all the replies. I figured out the prob. Had to take it apart of course. The br*** lug that the whole enchilada you spoke of sticks into was all distorted, either from when they put it together (in Mexico) or the first guy who brought this back to home Depot to end up on the 1/2 price table. Works now, too bad I don't know how to weld! I just know how to FIX a welder and save 300 bucks or so. he he.
