Back on the dash From all the fabbin, it got a bit warped so I had to get it back into shape DASH is straight up wearing me OUT I'm am DONE with working on it....
Chopper ... Dude ... Don't apologize for building a car that makes sense to you. If you want discs, 4-bar, rack, SBC, auto trans, whatever ... go for it and never look back. There have been features in every car I've ever built that were a direct consequence of the fact that I had a wife and kids. I'm not going to reveal my age, but I will tell you I got my first driver's license in the 50's and know just a little bit about how things really were "back in the day." Believe me, if the guys who were building the coolest cars back then would have had access to radial tires, disc brakes, and the like -- they'd have all jumped at the chance. Cars were built to drive and were limited most often only by budget and ability. Tell those whose foremost concern is period-correct to go to a fuckin' museum ... or, better yet ... ask if you can have a look at their car.
is that HEMI I am in love with this engine I also picked up another 55 chebby rear end from CL today for 50.00.. I needed some backing plates stuff, plus i got some good axle spares, and a good housing and third for the next project.. Hard to pass it uo for 50 bones - finish rear floor pans - mount seats - mount fuel tank - finish dash ( major work ) - pull third from my 55 - build rear axle - pull body - weld sub frame and floor from underneath body - pull suspension apart and rattle can it / parts - run fuel, brake, and electrical lines - assemble chassis - drop engine / trans - drop body - finish electrical - final assy - test and tune baby
very cool, im pretty new to the hamb, so havent seen your other builds yet but you do a great thread! ill be watchin the progress. thanks for the inspiration.
It is YOUR CAR,YOUR MONEY,YOUR WAY. If disc brakes offend some, it is just thier stupidity showing. I want to enjoy my old car for a long time, ending up crashing or dying due to poor braking is not in the game plan. When these cars were new they advised you to leave one car space between you and the car ahead for every 10MPH of speed. So you would leave 6 car lenghts at 60 MPG. Now if there is one car space at 60 some one will fill it. Disc is the only way to go, you have to be able to brake as well as the kid in the rice bucket.
Wow,thats lookin good.I'm in the same process right now.Enjoyed it for a while, but it was definately time for some improvements.Keep up the killer work,I've enjoyed watching all your builds.
I dig you car... but your window cranks won't clear your dash. Don't ask how I know, but I all came about tonight retro-fitting a set of jeep pickup regulators in the factory holes on my coupe....
Just finished my 33 Roadster and did the disk brakes with 4 link 9 inch--Posted it on here today and got a little flack but what the hell? I been at it 58 years and let me tell you a hot rod is your dreams and when completed your way there is none better and knowing you got the horse power and the ability to hook hard and go straight and stop on a dime is worth every bit of effort.
got some stuff done today - pulled 4.11 from my 55, swapped in with 3.85 posi - dismantled backing plates and rebuilt brakes - painted and assembled front end
