Well guys, it's comming to that time where the weather is warming up and I am getting ready to strip down my 1963 Chevy II Wagon. I am trying to decide on a color for the paint but cannot make up my mind. I am going with a tan interior and going for a cl***y look on the color nothing crazy like flames or a bright color. I am going for the surfer wagon style (yes I know some of you think this is stupid but it will be used as one). I was thinking either a green or champagn (sp) color with the tan interior and some darker wood or even bamboo colored wood like the rack on top, steering wheel, door panels, etc.
I was wondering if you guys have any pictures of wagons or hell, anything at all with some cl***y nice colors that would look good on my wagon. I most likely will stay away from any shade of red or maroon.
Thanks for any pics or oppinions!
Here's a few that I was looking at:

i like the middle color best but any of those would look awesome

  5. I like your idea- if it was mine i would be diggin' some pale 60's VW type colors, or a metallic aqua with cream white.

Harley Davidson has a limited color for January - March 2009 that you might check out.

It's light candy root beer/dark candy root beer. The light candy root beer would look great with the tan interior. There are some pics of the combo on the web, but you can't truly appreciate the color unless you see it in person in the sunlight.

......or I'd go with a forrest green metalic........

Good luck with the color search. :)

Thanks for the info guys! I picked up an 01 Jaguar color called Alpine Pearl Metallic which is the first link I posted and then Chrysler had one similar but a bit more GREEN without the goldish brown tint in it and it's funny because the guy mixed it and the name of it???... Chryslers Alpine green pearl metallic haha.
The only thing about the light green on that Nomad on second link is my car does not have much chrome or trim at all... Only thing is the grill, headlight buckets, bumpers and a few emblems and around the taillights. As far as the side goes, just the door handles and the vertical bar between the gl*** and the vent window.
Anyways keep the oppinions comming and pictures as well!
I am trying to find a Nova wagon model to build a few of and paint them to see which I like best. I found Jimmy Flintstone 2 door sedan Nova online but it's not a 4 door and nothing comes with it, just a resin body.

58fridge100... Where did you get that first pic of the wagon with the wood side? I was thinking about doing something like this with mine and just paint the wood side on but not sure how tacky that would look.???

One thing I've noticed & always liked about early Novas was that the interior color often matched the exterior. Most folks seem to want a contrasting color but I really like a matching color on those little cars.

Tan guts? I'd be looking at beiges, tans, & champagnes for the exterior.....

  13. .....those were metallic vinyls for the most part- creates a cool effect, but doesn't necessarily have anything to do with a "surf' vibe.

I think JH's comments are spot on if you are going for something timeless/traditional for this period of car. Bringing at least some of the paint color inside really nails it on something like this.

I suppose that the monotone tan or grey is still standard issue for the modern street rod if that is the direction of the build. The description "surf wagon" leads me to think something more period, and I think the contrasting tan interior would be difficult to work with on this concept.

I do like the light metallic green idea on these.

Inside of the car now is a darker green with nice new seat covers and new headliner but the green is ugly IMO. I think I may be going with the green on the Nomad that I posted above in link 2 I believe it is... This with tan interior, bamboo rack on top, etc would look good. I was thinking about painting some kind of wood dash or something in it too but not sure, it's all up in the air.

Some nice colors posted so far. (Well, most of 'em anyway!)

Just to throw something else in the mix. I recently picked up a '65 Rambler wagon in factory red. Red just don't do anything for me on this body style, so I was lookin' at other options. This color caught my eye.

Mid '60s Rambler Barcelona Taupe. (I think ...!) For sure the 1st 2 pics are that color - pretty sure the others are too. Hard to find good large images of rides that color online. Tossed a 2-tone in for yocks.

Good luck .... wagons are way cool!

That's a nice looking color and great looking wagons too! Yeah I love my wagon even though I've only driven it for a few hours before parking it and tearing it apart like I do with everything else no matter how good it runs... It's got a 327 in it with the powerglide and it ran down the freeway about 1 1/2 hours near my house and then all the curvy back roads for about another 45 minutes or so. It handles great, manual steering is awesome, I plan to put power brakes but not power steering. It turns very easy and you can actually feel the road so I like it. Once I decide on a color I will strip the block, paint the block and my new turbo 350 ******, fixing all the rust and ordering my front floor pans this week, look into a nice retro looking underdash A/C unit unless I find a dash one where the vents are chrome and look vintage. I plan to make a daily driver out of it that is also comfortable but keeping the stock bench seats. I can say though that the front is a little cramped behind the steering wheel. Luckily I am very small but for a tall beer belly person it is tiny.
