Leo Kellett lived in Spencerport,NY (near Rochester) and I remember the car. Leo later started racing R/C cars and had a dirt oval in his back yard, that we used to run on. I asked him once if it would be cool if they made a '61 Impala for R/C,like he used to run, and he said "You remember that? Thanks for making me feel old!"

GOOD TIMES....GOOD TIMES!!! The pits were INSIDE the oval, maybe a good ole boy fight or two after the feature and them sexy trophy queens! DAMN good times!!

  3. Dr John, you've got great photos but my son, my son, I think he is trying to kill me with all those 50's and early 60's photos! My heart can't take much more! Good Lord, I can see some of them now from when I was a kid running at Islip. I didn't get to go as often as I would have liked to, Pop wouldn't pop for a Saturday night that often and he wasn't that crazy with me hanging around with all the older thugs that I hung out with at an early age who would have taken me with them on Saturday nights every week.

  4. John, I'm glad I got those photos early today before PB ate em up.

The second photo in thread #2242 is at East Windsor Speedway in Hightstown, N.J. The Jeep was always the pace car. Two cars that I can recognize are outside pole is Al Michelchuck in the 292 and the last place car is 11 of Lee McBride. This is a heat for the Sportsman cars, mid 70's

Thanks for all the pics Dr. John.

If you find any old pics from the Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsborough NC, please post em. I'm looking for old pics of my Granddads car.

Here's a link as well as an overhead.

Are you sure that's not Dave Nicholson, as in Jack's brother? Looks a lot like him, don't you think?:D Thanks for posting this. I may build one like it in 1/12 scale.

I am looking for any pictures someone may have of Lee Bray #67. he drove a Capri-bodied asphalt modified and later a mercury bobcat in the NASCAR modified series in the late 70s and early 80s in the northeast.

    thanks

I still have the Gator Racing News with this picture and report about that race. It was the Oct. Syracuse race that got rained out, then snowed out and was rescheduled for the following spring. Accident happened coming off turn #2.[/quote]

I am pretty sure that was the wreck were the 666 lost its roof and rollcage.

1971: Richie Evans and Roger Treichler raced to a dead heat at Lancaster (NY) Speedway, so both drivers were given checkered flags for a victory lap. Dave Burlingame photo.

Chuck Boos' four-wheel-drive coupe at Lancaster (NY) Speedway, around 1969. Chuck could not get it to work on the pavement at Lancaster, but it ran very well -- too well, in fact -- on the dirt at Ransomville. When I interview Chuck, he said he did not think it was fair for him to race the car at Ransomville and have such an advantage, so he sold it to someone who did not live/race in the Western N.Y. area. I am the proud recipient of the cardboard stencil/pattern Chuck's signpainter used for years to make the No. 9 on his cars...

Chuck Ciprich in the Augie Lieber-owned coach at Nazareth. This was purchased from Merv Treichler's car owner, Gil Bruss, at the end of the '71 season. JEFF SCOTT PHOTO (www.speedwaysnapshots.com)

I know of one pic of his Capri that was in an Oswego Speedway program I have somewhere - slightly shortened after an unfortunate encounter with the wall.

Lee was a good driver and from the few times I met him a really decent guy; sadly he's no longer with us. Wonder whatever happened to his last silver and black Pinto? That was one sharp looking car.

  27. I you're talking about the Syracuse wreck, I know it was Wayne Reutimann. As I said, I have the Gator Racing News with the picture of the car and article about the wreck.
