Been there, done that, same scenario. T-boned a car that blew a stop sign and shattered my arm in 6 places.

Learned in Sturgis from a veteran that there's two types of riders: "Ones that have been down and ones that are going down". I know many of the former and see many of the latter everyday.

I'll second the "Be safe guys". But have fun too!

Do you actually ride that thing with the cables (especially the throttle) like that?

Daytona? Doesn't look like a 79 rd400 to me. I used to have that same tank and seat hanging in a shop I worked at. Cool aftermarket stuff. He needs a double leading shoe front brake to complete it.

  15. Who said it was a 79 RD400? Look closer at the front brake. Look at the triple tree, no handle bar mounts. The engine was swapped for an air cooled one and lights were added along with stock exhaust to make it street legal by Bill Mitchell of GM.

Bikes got me sidetracked away from Hot Rods for a lot of years. Heres two bikes I kept. '56 KHK flathead in '59 XLCH Sportster chassis. '50 Triumph 500 Flattracker. Good thread, I glad it didn't get dumped.

    My badass ride:p
Actually I've had bikes since I was 13, started with a 1970 Yamaha 60 road bike, then a Yahama DT250 (still got that one), have a 72 Yamaha LS2 100 twin road bike, and a hurt cb360. had a real pretty 74 honda 750, sold it for concrete in the garage:eek:. I pine for a BSA, and still see a old harley in the future.

  24. Seem to remember reading a story about that bike a few years back. Was the actual Daytona 200 winner or something like that and the legendary Bill Mitchell made it streetable. Fill in the details please.

And Zman, did you look at that trick factory brake? Cool Shit!

I've also ridden for most of my allotted years. I've had an Ariel 500 square 4. That was a great bike once the lucas was on the floor. Now I have a 97 Valkyrie and a 98 1100 shadow ace. Also 5 assorted dirt bikes. Anyone in the Tucson area wanna go look for projects?

79 RD400 is the "Daytona" that's why I said that.
And after a second look they do look like the Twin Leading shoe hubs. But where are the radiator mounts? That's the thing that made me think it's not a TZ frame. The '72-74 TZ's are the ones that would have had that rear shock placement and tank. And the RD and TZ frames were pretty close to the same at that time, except for the some brackets and such. Pretty standard upgrades for a RD back in the day to put a TZ front end on, and even the swingarm. If someone removed the radiator mounts to put an air cooled motor in there then I'd be really surprised. Not saying it isn't so, just that I'd be surprised and dissapointed as those frames are pretty desirable. These are the bikes I raced through the 80's. I could never afford a real TZ so I ran upgraded RD's and TD's, then RD/LC's and RZ's.

But if Bill says it was a TZ I'd say it was.

My BSA for the street and one of many flat trackers. This one is a HD MX 250 in a Boss frame WFO!

It's like a walk in the park to throw the flat tracker sideways at 70mph+. On the other hand it scares the H^&* out of me to ride the BSA on the street. There's always some one all mooney eyed, mouth open, on the cell phone looking and heading right for me.
    Zilla!
