During the assembly my 30 A my friend and I had a little help. Julie was eight years old at the time, quietly observing , actually got the first test ride in the car. Later her Dad found this letter to her teacher in her bookbag. the honesty of a child ............
That's a keeper; frame it and show it to her in 10 years...repeat again in 10...... Nice looking Poncho, too....
You know Art Linkletter was right "kids do say the goddamndest things". Gotta swell your chest with pride!!! Love dat killa PONCHO POWER!!!!
had my two boys Johnny and Russell strapped into my 34-ford 5-window leaving a car show. pulled out onto the country road when a 1970 ss 396 pulled up next to me, sidestepped the clutch, went through the gears and was gone. I got pulled over by the sherriff quarter mile down the road. My five year old blurted out to the cop "are you pulling my Dad over for that burnout he did back there " ? I couldnt get my hand over the kids mouth fast enough, took a ticket for something I didnt even do ! ! ! I wasnt really happy with my son that day ! ! !
That's really cool! I lauged though because I thought she wrote that it "had a gold chain" I thought she was callin' you guys out!!! Called gold chainers by an 8 year old! haha! Then saw it was gold ENGINE! Very cool letter!!
+1 on the "gold chain". It did look like that and then I thought there's no way a mini-HAMBer would be around "those guys"! Kids...ya gotta Love their honesty.
hope you took pictures of her in the car. that is something she will always remember, it would be nice if she had pics to look back on later down the road. if you didn't, take some now.
Kid's tell it like they see it, without the bias that comes with getting older. This is a very pure assesment of what she saw and experienced-Priceless.
Dude, that is so F'n cool! A future Hot Rodder right there! We all should take it as an example and get kids involved, who knows you may inspire the next Dean Moon or Mickey T! Doc.
Thats the reason we have the little crumb snatchers! I love to read stuff like that....gives ya hope for the next generation! My "kids say the darndest things" goes as follows. Finally got a sat. off and took my boy to the local cruise...he talked abut it for days prior to the show...We get there, check out the cars and he got hungry...no prob, dad has it covered, we swing into the Krystals to get a bite... We're sitting there eating when this FUGLY early 90's pro-street S-10 pulls in, loud electric blue with 80's graphics paint, and this twisted steel chromed abortion with not one but THREE chromed wings bolted in the bed and neon lights and strobes all around....oh, forgot to mention the fiberglass ferrari louvers on the side and the vette tail...its one of those trucks that their taste does not match their bank account... I watch the mullet head get out and come into the Krystals...he's walking by our table right when my 3.5 year old son loudly says.... "daddy, when we get done eating I wanna go look at that ugly blue truck....Daddy, do you see that ugly truck?" (How could you not see that thing?) I couldnt have been more proud as a dad as I was right then...the entire lobby was crackin up....they were all thinkin it too, it just took a 3.5 year old to call it.
awesome story. its cool to have kids involved in stuff like that. i came home from a crappy day at work, kicked open the door, kicked both the dogs, yelled at my wife and then looked at the couch and saw my almost three year old holding the new copy of Rod and Custom. she was lookin at evel's car and said "daddy thats a hot rod." my day got alot better. like others have said, they are the future of this hobby/sport/lifestyle.
Julie's dad raised her from infant as I did with my boys. Set them up in front of tv with three stooges re-runs back to back. what better way to start life ? gotta have a sense of humor, laugh at stupid things, stay loose man ! !
That's cool!! My kids live in Austin I live in So Cal. The other day My 14yr old called (no texted) and ask for $1600.00. When I asked what for she said that she had found "a cool old car and it'd make a great hot rod and would need help building it, could I help?" It's a shoebox so of course I'm trying to find the money. I saw the letter yesterday on a thread about gold engines. Kids are great and when they show interest in your hobbys It's a great day!
its ok, they are small dogs. one is a chihuahua and the others a yorkie. i may have lost control to the wfie inside the home....but the shop is till mine.
