** Guys -How many of your wives or girlfriends work on cars?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Dustyoldbodyman, Mar 20, 2009.

  1. Are your girls Tom Boys? my reply from an earlier post tells the story..

"When my daughter came into the world I knew for the first time what I was really here for... keep the kids close to the cars and try to encourage their involvement... Its probably why I married their mom also - She had all the body work done on that Ford - just needed someone to spray it - and the rest is history."

  2. No longer have a wife, but both of my daughters have no fear of turning a wrench. One has a Corvette she works on and the other has a Camaro she works on.One is even lusting after my 34 pickup. Its true that the nut doesn't fall far from the tree.

My wife helps me at my shop turnin a wrench and weldin sometimes. Shes prity frealess when it comes to cuttin and weldin

  5. BWAHAHAHAHA! That's funny. I would love to have my wife or my daughters working in the shop. They usually walk in the door and say "Daddy your shop is really dirty". Maybe someday. When they get closer to driving age we might institute a no wrench - no drive policy:rolleyes:

  6. Mine stays right in kitchen where she belongs, or around the laundry area. I sure would hate to have to slap a ho' down. Honestly though, No. I'm hoping my daughters will get into it though, 'cause I am sure sick of doin' all this nonsense myself.

My wife stays right there in the shop with me. I have taught her how to lay up glass and all. Her favorite tool is the plasma cutter. She has the
blown 65 elcamino in my pics which we are putting a 454 in because she has trouble seeing over the blower. That way my "x" project can have its supercharger. Tim

My girl has helped on my projects. I even taught her to weld. She's a keeper for sure.

Definitely NOT a tomboy though. No way, not even close.

Miss Patty helps out when I need an extra hand.
This was her first time "hanging" an engine into position.
She is a Wonder Women when it comes to shinning parts up. She can weld some, but doesn't like to grind.

Plus she can cook like crazy! :)

My wife Karen will often lend me a hand if I need it. Even took a hood latch to the head without complaining one day helping with my old '48. :)

  13. I was at a friend's house 23 years ago. I was standing in his driveway working on his 32 kind of looking down the street. I noticed a girl that lived down there that he had introduced to me before. I said to him "What is Cathy doing?" He said "Probably changing here collector gaskets". I smiled and we've now been married for 22 years.

My wife only wants to ride. When ever she drives, the car usually breaks down.

My daughter only walks through and says "when are you getting rid of these old things and giving me the money". Guess I spared to paddle to often when she was little.:D

My wife Nichole is no tom boy.. She loves to get out in the shop and turn a wrench and do what she can do. She drive her DeSoto and she fixes it... She replaced the carb base gasket last fall and never even had a question for me, she ain't bad with a TIG welder either..

My daughter is 3 and broke the steering wheel on her "Jet Sweep" AMF pedal car and she aint too bad with a 3/8" wrench for 3... I don't have her welding yet... She already has a job.....

My wife wasn't scared to jump in and help chop my coupe, box my 32 frame, and go on lots of long road trips in a banger powered model A. She was a keeper!

Looks like she can do all of the stuff 'the boys do' and still be a girly girl. Nothing wrong with that, you can definitely be proud. Do you keep a baseball bat by the front door? I bet you're beating the young boys off the front porch! Respectfully speaking, you have a beautiful young lady there. AND she can weld. My 15 year old daughter's interest in cars is waining. I need her out in the garage more often, but she's TOO much of a girly girl. It's up to my neice now. She's already stealing my vintage drags t-shirts to wear to school.

My girlfriend is a pipeline welder by day and a custom ( I havent earned the "K" yet) fanatic (like me) at night. She helps out when ever she can and is looking for a 49 chev fast back to build. But she is definatly not a tom boy. I met her in a bar and thought she was the girliest girl I had ever seen..Boy was I wrong!

My wife is good at detail work, fabric repairs or making a seat cover, helping with glass installation, that sort of thing. Her smaller fingers are wonderful for getting into tight spaces to install a door lock clip.In the past she has spent hours scrapping off undercoating without one single complaint.

  26. Yeah, these stories are fun!
My wife was pregnant with my (now 11 yr old) daughter and I was out of town for a couple of days on business. The alternator quits on the Jimmy we had and she calls my Drag racer buddy at the car lot kitty corner to us for some help. Turns out all she needed was help with the belt tensioner to get the serpintine belt back on - she already changed the alternator. Jeff could'nt believe it. She just gave him that look like "So what did you think - I can do this stuff!!"
    Too funny....:D
