    It's a Curtis OX5 (90 HP) or OXX6 (100 HP)

There were tons of them surplus after WW1, but by now they are like frog fur

I was thinking it was as a Curtiss,... I had seen some on Youtube a while back and it looked curiously familiar....

There used to be an OX5 club YEARS ago, some of the members had engines in storage. Maybe try this now:

  8. I took this picture a couple of weeks ago at one of Don Smiths "overflow" museums here in Terre Haute. Neat looking car. I had never seen one of these engines used for a race car, but understand it was fairly common at one time. It's a 'Ranger' 440 CU. IN. inverted 6 cylinder. Wow.

Here's a pic of a similar engine out in the open.

OK, So it's not an Aero engine in a race car, but it's a Motorcycle engine in a airplane,....... Close enough .. right ?? I just wanted to bring my favorite post back to the top.
    2 Indian engines I believe.

    UUH ...OK did it fly?
It can't be too bad ,afterall folks have used VW's cut into two cylinders for aircraft for years.

Bobby, which one gets to climb out on the wing to dig the geeses guts out of the gears on the jack shaft after hitting the flock of geese? Or crow guts, whichever?

Hey Mr Biscuit, what is the story on the #27 car in post #361 above? Is this George Wingard in a flat radiator Isotta Fraschini? Also don't let Bluto see your new avatar. You know his feelings on your car that made good in a day.-Jim

Nice Aeroplane Bobby!, Years ago when I worked in a restoration shop the Bugatti Air Speed Racer was one of our projects. It was powered by two type 50 Bugatti GP Racer engines. I remember striping all the faberic off the wood framework and stuffing it in a dumpster. The Smithsonian sells 1x1 inch scraps of the fabric from their restorations. Major screwup on my end, but who knew back then. http://www.tdmsoftware.com/majewski/rcstuff/bugattiinfo.html

I have been a fan of the Bugatti Aircraft since I first learned of it in teh early '70's. Of course, it was being modified into a fighter aircraft at the advent of WW2. Incredible story of it being taken out of Paris as the German's advanced on that city. Bugatti couldn't finish it before teh French surrendered. hell, he probably couldn't have finished a cigarette before the FRENCH surrendered. Anyway, we knew it had been found, heard it went to a Connecticutt Bugatti restoration shop because they wanted the engines, and just this past your I was blown away to see it at Oshkosh. What an absolutely awsome, incredible piece of engineering. Positively one of the most beautiful airplanes ever built, and way back then...amazing!

Most of the really beautiful aircraft ever built were built back then.

For the Bugatti Aircraft you should of course go to http://www.BugattiAircraft.com , where you can also become a member of the Bugatti Aircraft Association. The final goal of the BAA is the building of a flying replica.

Right now on Speed, hurry up and watch. Aero cars from the Brooklands on Car Crazy. Yea, I know he's annoying, but he covers some good topics.

  19. Not exactly a vintage racer, but hats off to this guy for even trying to fit a 10.2 litre radial aircraft engine in a Goggomobil. This is one of those ideas thats so bad, it probably doesn´t even sound good after you´ve had nine pints.

Making a simple transmission - I don´t think we´re gonna need many gears...

I see the guy also built a Hayabusa powered Goggo previously. I guess 150hp just wasn´t doing it for him any more.
