Typically, I don't much give a rat's *** about cars on a trailer going to a car show. And usually, I try to avoid drama posts as well. But what the hell is with loading a car up on a trailer and taking it to Billet Proof--THE Anti-trailer car show? Maybe, MAYBE I could see trailering a really nice, finished traditional piece there, something under construction, and certainly any kind of compe***ion car. But the hotel parking lots were full of trailers that hauled down beaters, vehicles that should be daily drivers, and freakin' slapped together piles of Rat Turds.

Okay, fine... so you don't have the stones to actually drive your junk on the open highway, or it's just not able to be driven safely. In that case, howzabout at least having a little decorum and not hogging up all the parking spaces in the host hotels front parking lots? Friday and Saturday night, the hotel parking lot was the place to be. It's the show within a show. We stand around, look at people's cars, drink beer, fire up the occasional engine, generally have a good time. The more cars packed into the hotel parking lot, the bigger the party. Out of MAYBE 35 or 40 spaces, plus all the "made up" spaces in the host hotel's lot, I counted over a dozen spaces that were occupied by tow rigs and empty trailers, and I'm reasonably sure there was another spot then taken up by at least a few of the cars that came in on those trailers.

Last year it was wall-to-wall hot rods on Friday and Saturday night, and was almost as much fun as the show itself. I drove my late-model, mildly customized Dakota last year, and parked it in the gr*** across the street so as not to take up a good spot for one of the show cars.

So please, in the future, if you're going to trailer your car to a no-trailer show, at least park the stretcher and tow rig out behind the hotel and leave the good spots out front for the after-party partiers, rather than hogging up 3 spaces for your tow rig, the stretcher and the car that can't make it on its own. I'd rather look at two piles of **** that drove in on their own than an SUV and a trailer covered with garbage. And I'd rather have the drivers standing near their car talking about it than seeing a big dead spot on the party field around the trailers.

Exact same issue at the Holiday Inn Express during the Hunnert Car PileUp. Plenty of areas to park a truck and trailer elsewhere yet there they were right in the main lot.

Yeah but then you would have to build them so that they are driveable - they can't be channelled 9" with that *** dragging stance

I don't care if people use trailers - but I'm with you - folks shouldn't powerpark um.

So, we've moved from the "trailer queens" f'n up the show to the "trailer trash" f'n up the pre and post show...

I'm copy righting the phrase "trailer trash" to describe the junky, undriveable, pieces of **** that need to be trailered to the car shows...

Maybe host a trailer show that goes along with these shows? Make money two ways and they'd have a good excuse to trailer their car. :D

    EXACTIMUNDO Brad!!!

It amazed and astounded me that those folks who brought their cars on trailers and parked the rigs in the hotel lot couldn't see the irony in that.

Maybe a few good scoldings will make the light bulb come on, but I doubt it. If they don't understand what you laid out in your post then I doubt they care enough about the other guy to be considerate enough to make space available for driven show cars. After all, who care if I have to park in a traffic lane, and Poor Boys cars are parked in the street. A sad commentary, IMHO.

I don't know the solution, but I think, at least Alan should work a deal with the host hotel to prohibit trailers in the lot for Friday and Saturday night.
There has to be secure parking somewhere for them.

i drove mine there then to orlando to hit the old town cruise. i know tampa is not far to ocala. but that was the best time me my car and my girl.......rolling to the show.

  12. My old truck sits way low and so far has not been trailered to a show. Ain't sayin' it ain't going to happen if it breaks but that is the only way it goes. Race cars I have no problem with. If you bring your car on a trailer, at least have the courtesy to park the trailer at a lot away from the party.

Good point. The host hotel should have a "no trailers" policy.

  14. The trip from Largo to Ocala DOUBLED the little number on the odometer of my car

Some people had their truck parked in one spot, the trailer in another, and then took the show car OFF the trailer, and put it in another... 3 spots taken up in a hotel that was clearly FULL. I hope none of those people ***** about the AIG bonuses...

BTW, we don't have a trophy for "best trailered car" in case you were wondering... In fact, If you trailered your car, we don't have a trophy for you. Period.

As far as having a "policy" for trailers... That would be like condoning trailered cars.

BTW, I only drove 104 miles each way.

the host hotels or organizing club should add a large fee to park a trailer in their lots during these types of shows to discourage this from happening. hit them in the wallet enough, they will get the message.

Last year i drove my wifes personal car....I followed my friends all the way back home..300 miles thinging how to raise it up so i could drive it to the show....Well i didn't raise it up and been driveing it and drove from sothern alabama to ocala...no problems...thats why i built this type of car...cheap, safe and cool as hell....the cool and the safe is getting taken out of it quickly...If things don't change ,the kind of show we like to have will be taken over by air ride late model pickup and later cars,,we need forthe garlits show to stick to the flyer or web sight with the rules and regulations and cull some of the vehicles that were inisde the gate.....

Yanno the hotel is being cool just letting people congregate in their parking lot. I'd be surprised if they volunteered to set any rules and in effect approve it. Easier just to have a security guard run everybody off and have no liability.

That's what I've seen happen anyway, YMMV.

I agree, it's completely ghey to trailer a car to Billetproof of all things, and then to hog the rockstar parking, well, it says a lot about the owners of these cars. I've never been to billetproof, but I guess I always thought it was anti-trailered cars and rat turds(LOL I love that one!!)?

Same as Sturgis, supposed to be about scooters, not powerstrokes pulling 5th wheels. Billetproof should be for driving to in you hot rod.......

While it's understandable that some cars need to be trailered, it's not cool to hog up the spots like some did. A lot of us didn't even go to the pre-party because we didn't want to lose our parking spots. The manager at the host hotel told me that they had mede arragements for trailers to park at the Sonny's BBQ and Cracker Barrel lots only some used them. Next year there WILL be some more enforcement on a no trailers at the host hotels parking lot.

Hell, let the hauler guys have a damn hauler show...in the supermarket parking lot, down the street!

Or, better yet, print up T-shirts for the guys that DROVE their cars to Billetproof that read:

"I DROVE my car to the Billetproof Hauler Show!"

Like the Sturgis shirts that say "I rode my bike to Sturgis Trailer Week!"

I didn't get to go to the Billetproof event this weekend, but I have driven my Hemi powered 41 to Tampa, Oklahoma City, Columbus, OH and even up into Canada from south Alabama. If you see a trailer near my car, I'm pulling it! It's even air conditioned! I love blowing by trailered cars on the interstate!

If I had money for a car hauler, I think I would just put it into my car.

Yep, one of the best things in life is a 85+ mph p*** on a string of RVs or pickups with trailers all heading home from a car show. How can not driving your car be fun? Gary

PS, I do admit to wanting to have a shortie RV and enclosed trailer some day to travel the US in, for a year plus if I can. But I think I'll leave the RV and trailer lash up (my portable garage) in the camp ground or RV park and use the rod for the daily driver and road trips to car shows or exploring / touring.
