Here are some Bangers (and others) at the Hoffmann Family Fish Fry this weekend. The Hoffmann Family sponsors an incredible sprint car team (I believe they won the USAC series last year?) and has sponsored all types or circle track cars in the past - from midgets to Indy cars. This is a meeting of the Buckeye Auto Racing Club and was one heck of a good time. Getting ready to go: Lovin' the new 97, my car is running better than ever: Here we are at the Fish Fry: Josh Shaw's sedan with the new Indy tires: Dan Shaw's truck and the sprinter Josh built for him: King of bangers, the Hoffmann family midget: There were some other cool cars there, but we started drinking beer and BS-ing and then it got dark. My favorite was an immaculate, bone stock B powered '32 Tudor... And the current sprint cars in the race shop are pretty incredible, too. Will Kimble
Miller DOHC banger at billet proof FL thought you may enjoy these photos of such a beautiful banger I got the privilege of driving well steering it into the show Thats me also who is running in the V4-F class for top speed 100 mph plus Im in the processes for building a banger for this and would like more info on whats working and what your running in Im building a V4F belly tank thanks
Thanks for the compliments... Yeah I'm keeping one eye on the body design and skeleton framework for the body, and the other on things like, pedals, steering column & box, etc. as they relate to each other and where I'll be seated. I'm wanting to keep the steering something I can really grab onto and wrangle into a turn without feeling like I'm trying to climb the steering wheel or wrestle a horse! I had picked up a 1927 Pontiac steering column and box, though its REALLY bulky and I'm not sure if that's the route I'm going to head in or not. We'll see!
Geez, I'm flattered!! Sometimes I have the time, and sometimes I can't find the time to tie my shoes! I'm heading into a busy season for a time with work, long crazy hours and such again, but I'm still gonna teeter between the roadster and this. Yeah I'm about 5'-8" the last time I checked, so yeah its a little tight even for me, anything near 6-6" and, well,...I think you're knees would touch your eyebrows I'm afraid! I just need to figure the best way to stiffen up the back seat area of the bobtail and still make sure it has good looks, etc,.... then I'll be set. We're gettin there!!!
You need to purchase one book,.... "Outlaw Spring Car Racer" Autobiography by John Gerber. Gerber himself.... He ran a chevy 4 and beat out a LOT of guys for almost two decades. Nothing like reading where he beat a guy in a Duesenberg! Next thing is to research the wonderous Bob Rufi! He held the fastest time at the dry lakes for a long time with his little chevy 4! Last,... talk to Herb (aka: etmb) here on the HAMB. Herb's probably watching this anyway and hopefully will weigh in. He's built a nice little chevy and is very knowledgable!
... guess I won't get a chance to even sit in it and make engine noises if I ever stop by when visiting my folks!
I have heard you can get a good amount of power out of them but I guess I need to know what exactly I would be looking for. I found one near my wife's family, kinda need to know if it is the right thing.
Indy Roadsters of the 50's and 60's ran Firestone "Speedway" tires. 16's and 18's. Also, many Lakes, and salt flat racers used them. (So-Cal coupe and Belly tanker) They are incredibly hard to find and in many ways the "Holy Grail" of vintage racing tires.. Anyways, Coker Finally reproduced them, but not many. They did a REALLY good job on them! Cool post you guys got going! The Gerber book is one of my favorites!!! Joshua Shaw
Theres a really good reprint online somwhere on how to build a sprinter from an early Chev four . It's a 1930's publication and may be not what you need to know for the lakes . I want to build one too eventually just for the challenge and I have a young friend here (25) who has several pre28 Chevs, but won't sell me anything after he learned I cut one up years ago just for the firewall..
Sure ya can!.... we'll just have a prybar and a few quarts of oil handy,...slip in, and slip out! We'll fold ya up like an accordian brother!
Specifically from a chevy, or with a chevy chassis? I know of two designs found in old publications, but none specifying a chevy? I'm curious to know whch one that is?
Progress has halted on my T motor, fingers crossed waiting on some leads for OHV heads.... Having no Banger progress this month, decided to buy a new one to fool with! 1943 Ford 2N
HAHA Zach, I almost bought a 9N last weekend. Wa on Craigslist for 1,000.00, said it overheated. I went and looked at it, really nice tractor but the oil was all milkshaked. So I figured it was a head gasket or cracked somewere. He wouldn't budge on price, so I turned it down. My Dad has an 8N, we use it all the time. I built my shop with it. They come in handy A LOT!
belly tank has not been started yet I have a drop tank waiting in the garage and a banger motor ive been collecting parts for. Can we talk model a pistons? school me on performance pistons in a banger. My 4VF engine will have 6.5:1 compression and i'm not sure what to do for pistons on this engine. should I do the ross ones from vintage ford? or would it be cheeper and better off to use chevy 283 pistons? If so what do I look for In a piston for this application? or what piston dose anyone suggest. I would like to use H & H h-beam rods with them as well I have a B crank that was counterweighted with sweat on weights Please help .....my banger needs your knowledge Also dose anyone have full directions to convert a A block to pressure oiling. Im doing insert mains at my local shop got directions for that. But I want to do billet steel main caps with pressure oiling to them. Also where is the best place to send my B counterbalanced crank to get drilled for oiling and ground sorry for all the questions im a young guy and I need to catch up on this knowledge
A couple pics of my dads hill climb project.......... Trying to get it ready for a hill climb in Nor Cal in April.
i'm a little late to the posts about chevy 4 bangers, i have some early chevy blocks, and i think main caps and bolts to go with if anyone is interested.
Hey Zach, I thought these pics might inspire you to focus on the T again. It will probably be at the Pancake Breakfast again this year. If you need pictures of any details, let me know and I will do my best to get them for you. Dan
dadydyo- thanks for posting the roadster- I remember it from the Pancake thread last year. PLEASE take some pics of this year's event for us East Coast schmo's!... Oh, take a good look at how/where the axle is dropped on that T!
