    Just an observation:

When I was a teenager in the '50s, Shoebox Fords were everywhere. A lot of them were sold new, and by the mid-'50s they were pretty affordable, so lots of high school kids drove them. Many were customized, many were hopped up, a handful were raced.

By the mid-'60s, though, their popularity had faded badly. They had been replaced, I guess, by the flashier and factory-faster Fords, Chevys, and Pontiacs of the mid-'50s and '60s. I would say that from '65 until around 1990, they had virtually no respect at all. You rarely saw one on the street, at a show, or in a magazine; very few of them were being restored or built as rods or customs. When I bought my '51 Victoria in 1989, I paid $2500 for a 37k mile, generally very nice original car. When I sought parts for it, they weren't expensive because there was little demand for them.

Now I've had my car for nearly 20 years. I still love shoeboxes as much as I did 50+ years ago. It's gratifying to me that a new generation has found them attractive, and that they've returned to popularity after so many years of being ignored.

Wow, I'm amazed at all the great shoebox cars here! Thanks for a great forum.
Just bought this car a few weeks ago. It has a newer interior and some mechanical work has been done recently. The nose/deck/shaving seems to have been done a long time ago, and there are many small cracks where the welded up seams flex a little. It has a small block Ford with automatic, power disk brakes all around and a narrowed 9" with 4-link in the back. I bought it after my wife vetoed the two Volvo P544 hulks I was going to grace the driveway with for a multi-year non-running kind of project (!). She suggested I get a car that runs, so here I am. As it happens, a 51 Ford was the first car I ever pulled an engine out of (to put in a friend's 32 5-window). I'll have plenty to keep me out of the tavern, starting with steering and backlash adjustment for the rear end. I'd like to lose the fuel cell with the diamond plate cover and inside fill. So many projects...

I bought the car in Vegas, and it was previously registered in Arizona. It has NO heater and NO windshield wipers - all the holes have been filled. You can see the custom split rear window in the photo. Anybody know any history of this car? Working on some things I noticed that it apparently used to be metallic green (and maybe purple, too).

    Help.......

Getting ready to chop my 50 and puting together the pieces that I need to find for my stainless trim.... I plan on retaining the stainless on my door and quarter windows. Someone I believe on the HAMB Shoebox Club told me (Via Email) that they had the splice clips for the trim and that I would need them to splice the cuts.....

Is there anybody on the Club that makes or has these little splice clips....

    OR

is there anybody out there that can tell me where I can purchase them.....

    Thanks
    Rich........

Looking for some help.... Not Mine but I sure do love the look.

I'm getting ready to chop my 50 ford and I would very much like to speak with the owner or builder of this car. I dont know if he is a HAMB member but I figured its worth a shot maybe somebody knows the car & can possibly hook me up with the owner. Any Information regarding the top chop could help me out.... Build photos would even be better.

Contact Skrap Metal here on the HAMB. He put up this thread of the car in question. This has to be one of my favorite shoeboxes of all.
