"Headers By Doug",...............he brought in a couple pictures to my shop today to be framed. The guy still looks like he get behind the wheel, on the startline, ANYWHERE today :D SUPER nice guy, I haven't seen him in well over 40 years, I used to deliver steel tubing from my Dad's steelyard in Paramount to Doug's shop up on Whittier blvd.

  5. Well Hell yeah. Headers by Doug were the buzz. I think I had one pair thru the years.
    That and Hookers.

  6. He is back in business under a new name. The header Co. is still owned by someone else but he is making those square electric cutouts that you see. Talked to him on the phone when I ordered some for a customer a couple years back.

    Doug's Headers I think?

Thorley's headers on the FWD GMC motorhome are the best.
    Jardine took over from Thorley.
Or was it the other way around?

Doug Thorley started racing decades ago, with a Buick straight-8 stocker, his name is in the results of many reports from Santa Ana in Drag News...Rikster has a picture of him racing Gil Alaya's chopped Ford at Santa Ana in the early 50's...later, when Thorley went into funny cars, Gil painted the Chev II.....a real pioneer.

  17. My intrest in cars begain around 64. I was about 10. I was full tilt hooked by 67. Just old enough to remember a lot of that stuff. Missed out on some of the early 60's car vibe. Wish I'd been just a little older. It's all good though.
Model cars, Hot Rod and Hot Rod cartoons feed my early habit. I always put Headers by Doug on my car drawings. Decal sheets alawys had them too.
What a glorious passion cars have been.

Doug Thorley of Doug’s Headers fame campaigned this AMC Javelin bodied AA/FC with Bobby Hightower at the wheel in the late 1960’s. The car was fairly competitive for that era, and was eventually destroyed when it took off and flew, right at the finish line at Irwindale Raceway.

  20. Have a set on the 455 Olds in my 75 GMC (FWD OLDS Toronado style) MH, very popular with the 73 thru 78 GMC MH cult!! Used to have a set on my BB 427 in my 64 Vette too.
And I have that decal ( post #8) on my 60s Kennedy Tool boxes put there in early 61.

Had a set on my 70 Plymouth with a 318. I bought them because they were better priced than other headers...this was in 1975 when I was in the Navy in SanDiego. Boy did that 318 sound good. Had some Thrush mufflers on it.
