They're still made in Mexico........ but by Chinese immigrants.

My friend Javier goes back to his old village a couple times a year and said some Chinese "tourists" showed up a few years ago all interested in how the locals made blankets. Being polite they explained the process while the "tourists" are snapping photos like crazy. Next thing they know there's a bunch of Chinese moving in a couple towns over and they started churning out "Mexican" blankets and underselling the locals. I told him he was pulling my leg but he swore it was for real.

Start telling them its a Volkswagon. I been told my 49 ford is a 54 chevy just like jesse james! Then I tell them what it is and the blank stares come back at me.
Hell its not chopped yet but has the black primer so its a 54 chevy.

I pulled up to the store in my 51 Chev with no real modifications. This old lady stopped me and started telling me about how her husband that had recently passed away and her had gone on their honey moon in a car exactly like mine and it fact it could be the same car. She went on for about 15 minutes and finished by saying that is a Buick, right? and to that I just answered "yes Mam" She was able to relive some good memories and I met a nice old lady, so I figured that there was no harm in letting her think it was a Buick.

Similar story: I was at a rod run in Nebraska, in my '57 Chevy hardtop, a pair of "older" ladies were marvelling at how big the back seat of my car was when I overheard her say that her and her 'late' hubby used to get it on in the back seat of their '57 many years ago. I walked up to her, put my arm around her and smiling, simply asked if she'd "like to get in the back seat with me?" She actually turned the brightest shade of red I've ever seen, grinned and said "If only I were ten years younger," and walked away laffing.

I usually get 'What is It ? "

    I could tell them its a :
49 Chev. Aero Cp chopped and channeled, on an 80 Olds frame with a 47 Olds molded in front end with a 53 Plymouth front bumper , 94 Caddy molded taillights with a 54 molded Corvette rear bumper, suicide doors, all openings on actuators.

    Then the questions:
    How long that take ?
a little over a year so far, about 60 to 80 hours a month in my spare time
    Yes that's a blower 671 like a big fan.
    No I'm not insane,I didn't polish it,
    Whats the HP ?
Capable of close to 800 HP. Right now 558 HP ,
    MPG ?
About 4mph if I keep my foot out of it.
    Is It legal ?
    Depends.
    What's it worth?
Don't know, don't want to know right now.
How much money do you have in that ?

I'm not married kid, that's the most important thing you learned today, keep it in mind.

But it's much easier to say it's a Custom.

Point out where I said that. The rat rodders took those trends and beat them to death.

lil history lesson to be learned here.... in the 1920's and 30's many people such as howard hughes would take the hubcaps and the bonet off his old packard... it was considerd a hoodlum thing to do . they were called in that time "rattle traps", which intern meant rat r**..... then by the 40's guys started to do more and more, even building wild things with motors, no winsheilds etc, etc... and were called hot rodders...... in all i think we build what we want a simplemans hot rod or kustom that is basically a rattle trap or a rr.... until the other youngones besides me started to paint them flatblack stick some skulls and dices on there 93 cheavys and call them rat r**'s ...... to me each is thereown, just make sure you know what it is before you call it what its not....

    just my 2 cents..

    memphis..

having had pristine Muscle cars; having a rat and not having to worry about the paint, some guy/gal opening their door on it, some sniveling brat with ice cream hands putting sticky shit all over my car is ok with me! I will keep my rat! AND it has been everything from a 40 Ford to a 55 Olds..as long as people are looking and enjoying her, that's all that matters! She's done!!! Maybe when I grow up, I will restore her to her former glory, but for now, she is gonna be enjoyed as a Rat!
