If your looking for the 'in' thing, the east coast channel no chop 'seems' to be popular these days, otherwise- lakes style is hot also...

  3. East coast channel and remove wind-wing windows.

    chop and channel that puppy!

  6. If you're looking for some inspiration you should check out the cars at http://www.circlecityhotrods.com/ .... super clean cars, simple and sharp, with a nice blend of traditional parts with some newschool race inspired style.

I'd love to see it chopped 4", channeled till the front of the cowl meets the bottom of the framerail so the rail appears to come out flush from the bottom of the body, rear mag wheels with slicks, spindle mount fronts, and a blown chevy with dual quads and some vintage air cleaners. Fenderless with the original grill shell and a custom insert. Gloss black exterior, with oreo cookie interior. Little bit of chrome and a little bit of brushed aluminum here and there.

I'd also change out the rear leaf spring set up and go with a transverse spring and ladder bar set up. Original 32 ford axle, drilled and chromed and maybe the new stainless wishbones that are available.

Man, I'd be so excited to have that project!! I'd be way more excited if I had the money to do all the things I just said I'd like to see done! haha

Good Luck!! I'm sure whatever direction you take with it, it's going to make for a cool car.

    Keep us posted.

I don't really know much about early Chevy's, but I've always liked the proportions of this car. Perhaps this photo will help... :)

That's what I'm talking about! Whose car is that? That was at LSRU and I missed it? I have a '57 Chrysler 354 Spitfire Poly motor for it, but I'm gonna need more than the stock 2 barrel carb.

Didn't Jim Sibley do one like this? If so clone his, he has an eye for making a silk purse out of a sows ear.

yep chopped & channeled all the way , get rid of the vent windows
and yea those frames are the ugliest part ! you could make a cleaner frame
out of tubbing and graft some 32/34 ford front rails on the front.

Chopped and leave it up a bit higher out back. Take reference on the Silvia Special II which is a '34 Ford but the stance and chop is nothing short of perfection.

I vote for chopped highboy only if you put it on a 32 ford style frame.

The old version and the "newer" version of the same '34 from Calgary. I always loved this car, even in it's current form. Be easy to return it to it's former look, too.

  17. Kinda thinking the chop and hiboy, get that front really low. They look like they want to take off already.

  23. Yeah, what to do... boy do I know that regiment.
I have had a 33 chevy 5 window Eagle for 28 years safely stored inside.
Complete body - no wood at all.
Frame - no running gear or chassis parts at all
Full hood, full radiator shell, headlights and cross braces.
I bought front fenders and never had running boards or rear fenders.
Its not rusty (miracle for Michigan - it can't be from here).
Plans have gone from resto rod to highboy to now traditional rod.
Here is what I know for sure....
    1. A hundred well meaning people will give you advice about what it should be. Some of it is good advice.
    2. You should know what you like - if not, start hanging around shows and find it.
    3. Build what you like and let that be based on having a really good idea of what you like.
Some guidelines I like to use:
A.) STANCE is everything. mock up your stance and build the car to it.
B.) It can be TOO low. Traditional hot rods are not TOO low.
C.) Top of rear tires should not necessarily be above the belt or middle of the body on a Chevy coupe - my opinion.
I will leave my channeled (car was 4" channeled before I got it) and might chop it. Stance will be set in stone first. won't have a hood and will run a stovebolt first - SBC maybe later... Manual trans 5 spd. pie crusts, steelies, split bones and Ford style transverse spring in front 4 bar in the rear.
Get going on it - don't wait. get it ambulatory as soon as possible. its harder to lose interest in a running driving car. I am an example of what not to do there....

  24. p.s. I'm neutral on the vent windows - they are useful, I don't have any and I'm not looking for them....

I didn't vote, because you didn't give the choice, mine, of channel and no chop.

How about a 2" chop, full fendered, stock hood, shell etc, nice hot rod stance?
