I thought i watched an episode of Mythbusters, where they did this test, and proved only a minimal difference of interior temperature of different color cars.

Welcome to my world...wanna get real crazy? Read up on how "The People's Republic of Santa Monica" outlawed smoking on the beach. And at home, if your neighbors complain. And in the car, if your kids are with you. Or outside, at the Promenade. Tell me again about the "Land of the Free".

Yea, we all know that dark colored cars are a bit warmer inside on hot days than light colored cars but as Mark alluded it isn't enough for that knee jerk bunch to get excited over. Sometimes I think mental midget stuff like that is put out to justify their existence and keep getting them a fat paycheck.

I think the Big Three should collectively grow a pair and say "It is no longer practical and affordable for us to continue doing business in California. Effective immediately, we will cease selling cars in California."

That would bother us. I haven't met anyone who's itching to buy a new Dodge or Taurus lately. Besides, the Big 3 have no leverage...they are all but officially bankrupt.

Don't be fooled, it can happen in California and probably will. That's why I don't live there any more. The fact is, black cars can be unbearable on a hot, sunny day. I have recorded temperatures in a black car, here in Vegas, that can exceed 140 degrees. That's so hot you can't sit in the seat without putting something down to sit on and touching the steering wheel can be very painful. However, I still don't think the government has the right to outlaw what color you paint your car.

I love it when people say things like this can't/won't happen. The jokers in charge can do anything they want until we can hopefully stop them.

Been there (a long time ago) and done that. We have it made here in the midwest, no smog dogs, no color limitations, no Arnies! Oh, I forgot the big one, no traffic jams! LOVE IT! Good luck you Cali's! The late great state, certainly not the golden state, just Arnie with his #1 saying: I WILL CRUSH YOU! LMAOBT!

Would it be considered hipocritic if the government hired electrician that comes to your house to install the smart meter to control your thermostat is driving a black service truck?

I wouldn't worry about it cause we now have Hope and Change.

might as well ban american cars too. freakin rediculous.

it's the person's choice on that. if they want to suffer from it, let them.
if they want to deal with the temps in their car, then let them deal with it. next thing you know everyone will be rollin on white tires or somethin like that. so stupid. good thing i'm here in nowheresville, ks!!!

I would'nt say it's a bash against California, it's the people who are running the state.

They won't ban the color(s), they just tax the **** out of anyone that owns or wants to buy that color - They are going broke out there - maybe they should reduce the money spent on studies like this ? ummm?<!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

From what I read, they're not just saying "No black cars," they're saying that the paints need to be reformulated to reflect 20-percent of the light to decrease the inside temp of the cars, and black can not comply with that.
Makes me wonder about dark green, midnight blue, etc. etc.

It's not going to be just a matter of car manufacturers just no longer sending black cars to Cali, it's going to mandate yet another added cost to doing business in California.

There are other factors to how hot an interior will get--tint on the windows and number of windows/amount of gl***, for starters. We put a thermometer in my Grandpa's Olds 98 back in the mid '80s, and it was close to 140 degrees after sitting in the sun all day too The car was pinkish gold, with a vinyl roof, during a Wisconsin summer.

My money is on California p***ing a law like this.

Hum, I started a similar post yesterday and it lasted about 5 minutes before it was deleted. We'll see how long this one lasts.
And to stay on topic, I would think there are a LOT better ways of saving the universe than banning black cars. I don't understand how some folks think.
