I bought this last Sat. in Muskogee, OK from Craiglist and drove it home today on the back roads to Tulsa, some on old rt. 66. NO Brakes, thrilling way to get home. Lots of work to do but always "needed" one:). Hoping to put in a Y eventually but I'm kinda liking the old six. Gonna try not to make it to shiney, needs to be a work truck. Yah, we'll see how that goes. No rust except a small hole in the drivers floorboard, couple a small dents, easy to fix. Grille is perfect behind the old grill guard. Was Academy Blue-amateur paint-over in black at some time, wish they'd left it alone. Found some cool caps in the toolbox. Desoto??they'll look good in the garage.

Its not the size that matters... its how you roll em. :)

says a guy with 15s and each a different color or shade of a color...
and one wheel from the 80s... its purty. purty ugly.

i didnt have to cut the bed out for the C notch. i was going to go with a much taller notch (suicide doors brand) but in the long run didnt have to. we just cut half the frame out and boxed it up. i had already disected the bed floor so it wasnt neccesary. oh well

whats up opwk? email me your number and well get together and shoot the s**t

65fordguy. if you need nice cross members i have some for cheap

    y'sguys,

    Last of the straight axles.
    I had a friend who once had a '64.
That was a fun truck. 3/4 ton that sat about a mile off the ground.
Had a 292 with a granny 4-spd and it was geared so low I don't think it could do over 70 mph, but that was ok, the speed limit was only 55 back then. ;)
I'm going to asssume that engine's a 223. Good ol' motor. Thrifty on gas but lots o'torque and will likely outlast that truck.
They seem to protest less on the highway than some of those old Y-blocks did, too.

Congrats on your new purchase. Looks like a nice start to a great project....and hey, if you decide to keep the six (and I wouldn't blame you), you might wanna consider adding some of these mods, at some point in the future. :D

Here are some shots of my bed cut with a c notch. No need to cut the entire bed out or anything like that. Im currently letting mine rust a litle to match the rest of my truck but with a c noth and 4 1/2 inches of travel this is how it sits and the notch work. Rides way better than just a axle flip. Also with the skininnier tires and no power steering it makes for a lot easier turning radius.

    Here is the c notch
    [IMG]

here is the cover...now surface rusted. I will pin stripe later. Cant have shinny stuff on a truck with 20 year old paint
    [IMG]

And this is how it sits now.

And for the guy who commented about the big shiney wheels, and that comment was for ??????? You want a high five or something? You actually took the time out to write that? Just hit the back button and enjoy without feeling you made a difference in your life.

Love the stance! The wheel/tire and color combo work perfect on ur truck Whitey. So Cal style cruiser for sure.

I still need to finish polishing the trim and put it all back together.

The paint looks great in the sun.

    Tattedfordguy-

The front of my truck has the dropped straight axle 3". I didnt touch too much more of it. I tried to leave as simple as possible and original (other than having disc brakes up front that is).

trucks like these make me want to go back to my flareside.

  26. I realize the wheels are not what would typically be accepted by the masses here, but that is a damn fine-looking truck. With the widened fenders out back, this package is about as good as I have seen a flareside of this vintage look...

Always thought the '53-56 fenders looked wrong on the 1957 and later trucks...but this '66 is beautiful.

Yeah the rears look like fairlane 3 inch wider fenders.

I never saw a great deal of difference between the years as far as the
rear fenders go. But then again I never really looked.

Got me thinking about that flareside bed in storage:D

  28. What is the most economical & safe way to drop the front of a 65-66 F-100 while keeping the I-beams? I'd like to do my beater '66 F-100 long bed.

    Thanks

Yeah, I know what you mean.
Nuthin' sexier than "short and narrow". ;)
I used to work with a guy who had a '64 Flareside.
    223 w/ 3-on-the-tree.
It was just an old beater truck, but the body looked sound (and straight!).
Not too much work and it would've been a very sweet ride, too.
