  9. I got an old mag with it in it, I remember trying to scan it but my scanner makes the pixels way crazy on that old ink. It's kind of like that Ivo car with the white base and red groovy splotches on it.

Here is a breif history on where the 68 charger Flying Dutchman went. In January 1969 my dad bought the Dutchman from Al Vanderwoude and stripped it of its current colors and painted it as the Sour Grapes for the 69 season.

Caution the next few pictures are rated R (Parental discression is advised).

2nd day, and here is where the stripping starts. When you put it in perspective it is kinda sad to do this to a car such as it was.

My dad is the one smoking, still does, I think I see smoke in the pic nitrobrother posted a few pages back also, loves his smokes.

He ussually had Purdue students offer to help him a lot. His service station was right by Purdue campus.

Me at age 9 loving the driver seat, I always sat there when my dad was not home I would head to the garage and just sit there and day dream. I was bit by the racing bug hard and will post my junk later..

Part 2 of where the Dutchman went next.

Fresh coat of the base color, note the still green roll cage.

Its new home landing strip. My mom and dad argued the fact that he paid more for this car then the house we live in. I dont see the problem with that, do you!

front shot, the lower section reads, It Is Not I But The Sin Within , very fitting phrase.

The only picture of the car under load I have and its tore.

Part 3 of the missing Dutchman . The car was then rebodied as a 71 Barracuda wearing the same purple Sour Grapes scheme, but still using the 68 Flying Dutchman chassis and 392 hemi.

A race I remember well, He won the overall event that day and they were yelling all the way home.

Any way thats the story of what happened to the 68 Flying Dutchman Charger. He and Al hit it off and after this my dad went on to drive the Charger 3, Maverick, and 73 Mustang Flying Dutchmans for Al. He was burnt up in an oil fire in the 73 Mustang and retired from Drag racing for a few years, and returned a few years later in an alcohol funny car, The Midwest Tech.

I have made a couple dedication pages for my dad and Als stuff. The 1st link is to the Sour Grapes page. and the 2nd link is to the Flying Dutchman page. They have all the pictures I have of the cars posted with the story. The pictures are smaller size, but I will post them bigger on here. The Dutchman page has a video of the 68 charger running from youtube. The guy who posted it keeps removing it saying its private. Private but on youtube, I dont get it.
