Since we are on the subject, and your taking pic requests, how about a shot from the front edge of the fender looking down into the engine compartment... Maybe drop a yardstick across the rad support, or just mock the rad into it so we can guage your water pump issues.

BTW, the engine cradle looks awesome!!!

  15. Thanks man,

I will take a pic for you tomorrow. I could run the water pump set up the way it is but with out a fan. I want to run a mechanical fan so I need to pick up a couple of inches.

Thanks for bringing the other thread into here.

    What I'm pointing at is the brackets that hold the lower radiator tank;

Reading is fundamental. He specifically did not want to chop up the car that much. Pretty clear if you actually read the thread.

Yea, go ahead and up-size me. Oh, and add 2 more taco's... But make sure I get a diet coke. You know, gotta watch the calories. :D

Ok, got a good mental picture of the water pump problem...

How's about removing the A/C condensor, and replacing it with a smaller unit out of a newer car? Prolly be able to get one that's more efficent anyway. Then maybe move the rad forward 2 inches.

The new smaller condensor could be secured to the front of the rad with zip ties like an oil or tranny cooler.

The lower rad brackets look as if they are on clips that bolt to the core support... Shouldn't be too difficult to fab some simple new brackets that move it forward a little.

How's the rad secured on the top end? Plate? or brackets? If it's a plate, a new one out of shiney aluminum could be fabed cheaply, and it would add some bling without being billet or gold chainer.

If my idea would work, it comes down to the difference between your time to make the parts to move it, -vs- the cost of a new timing cover and short pump to replace what you have now.... 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other....

You know...you just made me realize that I need to just move the radiator forward. I'll have to agree with you. It won't take me long to move everything and it would be the cheapest way. I still think I'll be able to use the AC condenser but I will have to add a transmission cooler.

I'll keep you posted when I start wacking through it.

    Thanks again,

    Oh!!! Brainstorm here!!!

How's about removing the high-beams, and putting air ducts in their place. And then putting the tranny cooler where the battery used to be? You know,,, "Thunderbolt" style... :D

You had planned on putting the battery in the trunk anyway... Right?

Or, if you plan on actually using the high-beams for,,, well,,, driving and stuff, you could mount it along the frame rail, and put a $5 junk yard electric fan on it from a toyota.... Small and compact, lots o ground clearance, wont take up much room, and shouldn't hang down enough to draw attention. Just make sure the fan draws the air down to keep from heating up a spot on the floor.

  24. You know what's funny? I was saying that exact thing the other night. I plan on a 2/4 intake and thought it would be so cool to run the cold air tubes to the high beams. That would set the engine bay off and work well too. As for the battery, I plan on putting it in the trunk.

Are you talking about the radiator?

No, talking about the transmission cooler mounted along the frame rail with a small electric fan pulling air thru it.

On the subject of the radiator, I once saw a car running a second radiator mounted under the car where the gas tank used to be, and it had an electric fan on it. Naturally, there was a fuel cell in the trunk... Might be worth keeping that in mind if you have cooling issues.

Thunderbolt style high beam air ducts feeding dual 4's...... Go for it!!!!

  26. OK. Good idea. What about those finned tubular deals?

I actually have the original radiator for the Electra that has a built in tranny cooler. If I have to fit a radiator anyway I should probably use it.

dammit, why didn't I think of that???

I can't wait to see this thing get some air under the front tires:)

  30. There was a thread a while back all about those tubular coolers. If I remember correctly, the consensus was that they didn't work very well. I've never used one myself so I can't say first hand. I love the 2X4's with cold air through the high beams idea. I'm surprised you're planing to run an air conditioner, I must have missed that as I read your thread. That's very cool, (I know, I made a punny.) Yanking the front wheels with the AC on, only in a Buick :D
