My church has a old navy truck that they use in their youth ministry. the truck has been painted and the bed has seating for kids to use as a cl***room. The truck has no running gear but i think they plan on having it running for outdoor use.
I really like that set up...pretty cool. I'm actually doing a similar thing inside my new orthodontic office. I wouldn't mind a few more pictures of the store fronts to see what they did.
the truck was donated to the car club at church.I think it was a great way and to introduce kids to cool cars
i will see what i can do. If you got EastHill church gresham oregon they have a photo on the kidcity link
About a year or so ago Old Navy pulled them out of every store. 3500 or so. I hate to think how many got crushed. ( I heard it was something like 600) before someone yelled enough and they started to sell them. All of them where 50's Chevys 1/2 and 3/4 ton No running gear and they had to take the fenders off to get them in and out of the stores. A guy near me here bought 25 of them. A friend and I went to look at them he wanted to get one for his son. Lots of thick bondo on most of them. I see them in lots of different places now. Went to B*** Pro and they had one out front. Just some triva for those you might be interested.
some guy in jersey has a boat load of them in a warehose but i dont know where it is all they need is running gear all the chrome was redone on these trucks they just sat inside the store and had clothes folded in the bed
great idea to get the little heathins turned onto jesus and cool old rides.. heres an old thread on old navy trucks its been beatin HAMBered and closed but still good readin!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203935&highlight=old+navy+trucks
If you were to ask the church why, im sure that they would tell you it was "because it was Gods will" That sounds like a pretty cool God to me!!!! Besides, I belive he's the reason that my cars have come my way, Remember,,,,All of our rides belong to him...we are merely temporary caretakers of them. Besides a church could waste money on way sillier b.s. not to mention, i'd imagine that truck was probley donated as opposed to purchased for 5g's thru an ad in the paper. And finally, not all churches are created equal, for example; I live next to a cult disquised as a house of God. Not only is the pastor constantly conning people but he is lying to and fighting with the police and the village over simple b.s. I've found people constantly flock to him in fear looking for salvation. To him its like shooting fish in a barrell. I could only wish to live next a cool congregation who appreciattes an old truck as oppossed to my ***hole neighbor who has jacked up my property and vehicles numerous times just to turn his back on me "In the name of God" (His God).
If this church pisses you off I wonder how you feel about the inner city "Reverend Pimps" who roll around in $100,000 dollar rides as they p*** thru their ghetto neighborhoods, ignoring the communities that need help to keep from killing and destroying themselves. What kind of person do you have to be to take money from people when your ride cost as much as 5 to 15 of their houses combined. Of course they won't be living in that car for the next 50 years.
Somebody has done a good bit of work and put some decent money into to. I would have made it run before new paint and chrome. Looks like a cool display all the same though.
