I'm in the process of getting a bonded ***le for the 50 sedan delivery I bought recently. I need to know if what body style needs to be on the ***le. I'm hoping someone can tell me how its noted on their ***le.

I think it would depend on your state. A Suburban while based on a truck is licensed in Mi. as a car not a truck.

We're not talking about Suburbans, which ARE trucks here in TX, however the old ones without windows and seats known as Panel Deliveries are also trucks..

  5. SDs have been licensed and insured as CARS in Oregon and in AZ...........it is a car frame and sold as a entry level for small companys in the day.......as I remember

I know we're not, but that's just an example of how states differ. When you get right down to it, the difference might be whether it's commercial or private. But a sedan delivery is a car based product, a station wagon without windows, not truck. A panel is a truck

Originally sold as trucks, mine is now registered as a car. I do love this arguement.

my dad said that back in the day when he was a counterman ar the parts stores thay looked up frontend parts as wagons which is in the car section. and on the ***les in tn. and al. they also were listed as wagons or cars.at least on his ***les.

  10. In GA it wouldn't matter if you were getting a Hobby/Antique tag. With 50 states and the District of Columbia each doing things their own way, there are no doubt 51 different answers to this question. Then we get into how the manufacturer cl***ified things. Ford saved the designation of truck for 3/4 ton and larger since 1/2 ton pickups and panels up through '41 were built on a p***enger car ch***is. Ford called the 112 inch wheelbase 1/2 tons "commercial cars." The "commercial car" designation was also used for sedan deliveries and station wagons.

Does it matter? I never thought of it because ours doesn't have a ***le YET. In MI I'd just call it a 2 door sedan.

My deuce delivery is ***led as a 2 dr sedan. Cause it was made from a 2 dr sedan. I'll leave it that way and run an original 1932 car plate.

It will depend on your state. Mine came from Ohio and had Sedan Delivery on the ***le. In Kansas they dont have a place for that and ***led it as a 2D. Pretty sure its just a car, as it should be, I dont see any truck jargon on the ***le.

    cheers

I had a 56 Ford Courier - ***led as a car. A 57 Chevy Sedan delivery - ***led as a car. A Vega wagon delivery - ***led as a car. A Pinto cruising wagon (was essentially a sedan delivery with port holes, and Stop laughing!) - ***led as a car. All in California
Hmmm, seems like a trend here.

I'm thinking trucks cost more to register. so to me that means that sedan deliveries are cars

Sedan deliveries were based from a car frame. Panel deliveries used the truck frames.

if you can ***le it as a wagon it will be cheaper to register it.

  22. My 57 delivery was always registered as a truck, I got pulled over one time for having commercial plates on it that the DMV made me have. I wanted to change it for it would be cheaper but the DMV would not let me.

Cabrolethiboy: If you look in the new R&C it's the primered sedan in the first photo of the article about converting a 2 dr to a delivery. Kemps supposed to be sending me photos of the completed car, I will try and put them on the HAMB. I will pick it up first of May when their snow is gone.

  26. My 50 chev (like yours but not rusty where it shows)is ***led as sedan delivry / car ... But finding it in the old cars price guide it is listed under trucks

DID YA GET THE PAIR OF RARE FACTORY TAILITES WITH IT ?

is your question a plating issue ?
    Get the car plates
getting a commercial/truck plate cheaper .. Maybe less h***le parking but milage may be taxed instead

i have collector car plate which if the feds were picky could get me in trouble for everyday use ... Sposed to be for shows parades and such .. My story if need be ...i am a single car waiting for the clowns and marching bands to catch up to me..or i'm here to clean up after the horses..

Oh ya if you use one plate do not put the extra one on another car you own parked next to it damn

  27. In California, trucks cost more to register because they're considered "commercial vehicles" and supposedly because they're so heavy that they're destroying the roads faster than a car. A long time ago at the DMV, some employee there told me that you could register an old pickup as a collector car, but that if you ever got caught carrying ANYTHING in the bed of the truck and you had it registered as a collector car, they could give you a ticket for it. Seemed stupid, but I registered it as a truck so I could carry whatever I wanted in the bed. So now I pay more for my registration every year forever though.

Lobucrod, I posted earlier but in case you missed, my Ford Courier [sedan delivery] is ***led as a truck. Originally owned and operated by Weaver Cleaners in Dallas Texas.

I would lean towards a car in your case. Take a 58 Chevy for an example. A sedan delivery is based on a car/station wagon while a panel truck is based on a pickup body/frame. Even going back to say a 29 Ford. A sedan delivery was car based like a tudor while a panel truck would have the double rear doors and a bigger rear body.
