The Anglia of Frank L. Brown is one I won't forget...I was just back from Vietnam and my old racing buddy Don Wilson had bought a well-used 27 roadster/altered with a 364 Chrysler...we went to San Fernando to try it out...Wilson asked me to drive, and as I pulled to the line, my competition did not fire...so Frank L. Brown pulls up to race me instead...I looked at this funny contraption that was the starting lights...had not raced in 2 years and was looking for the flagman...needless to say he beat me by a bunch and when we got to the shutdown I lamely tried to explain why I lost..."Jeez, he said, "I would'nt have beaten you by so much if I had known,,,and then "welcome back." That was when we Vietnam vets did not get a welcome back, but what Frank Brown said that day did a lot to get me really back...never raced or saw him again, but, 40+ years later, from me: "thanks, Frank!!"

I remember those days, what fun we had. Leave Friday night and drive 500 miles to get to a race on Saturday, then drive all night again to get to another race 500 miles away on Sunday, then load up and drive all night to get back home and hopefully get to work on time Monday morning Monday night was getcha some rest night then, Tuesday night it was basically bare the chassis, engine, driveline etc. Then put it all back together and repeat the routine again come Friday. The joys of running a nitro car. We definately did it for love, because there was'nt any money in it back in those days. Even with the match racing you still did'nt break even at years end, but we did have lotsa fun.
