OK, here's the deal - was talking with a gearhead friend today, and he told me this story. Apparently, there is an old salvage yard at US-169 and 223rd street, called 169 Auto Parts. Seems the old guy who owned it (described as a prick) didn't feel the need to pay his taxes. Now the authorities have padlocked the place, and at some point in time, the old cars are due to be auctioned off; those that don't sell will be crushed. I've never been to the place myself, but from what he said there is a LOT of old metal there. Does anyone know any more about this deal than I do, or can find out? If nothing else, would like to know when the auction is - I'll save what I can.

I looked it up on Google Earth and you can see it. They must be on a big kick about that around there now. I heard that the same thing is happening to a truck yard about 10 miles west of this one. It's at I-35 & 231 st street.

If you are talking about the truck yard by towards Ottawa, that place was a gold mine for "Stewart Warner Gauges".......sometimes you have to think outside the box for parts and gauges......FYI.

    Hmmmm... interesting!

Any '48 - '50 Ford pickups in there? Any big ones, like F4s or F5s?

Along the same line, I hear Christie's in Leavenworth got crushed because the heirs wanted cash now. I bought a '26 GMC there years ago, and made a neat little turbo Buick V6 rod out of it. It is still around town somewhere. He had lots of old stuff, back to T's even if you looked hard enough. There was a V16 Caddy that they still have. I remember the remains of a little Rumley Oil Pull tractor way in the back brush that not many wandered into. Bob W

Just got of the phone with my buddy he use to work for the owners of this yard... The guy that is LEASING it now is the one in deep shit... The owners are working the paper work out right now to take it back over... So it sounds like there will be no crushing of cars or an auction as of right now.

Maybe an auction wouldn't be such a bad thing, you know?

I mean, if they have the publicity, why not cash in on some of it? Might help with some expenses... and it's nit like they're gonna sell it ALL, you know?

  18. Yes definatly keep us informed of an further actions. If there is an auction it's close enough for me to get to.

I used to go to 169 Auto with Kelly Cronister (Crazy old Mopar guy) in the 90's. Used to be some cool stuff there.

I have not been there in a while. I called for some 60's ford parts this summer, and he said that the didn't have any.
