Sherm Gun ran this car as late 1970, a time when classic, orthodox gassers just couldnt cut it against the new breed of supercharged gassers that were surfacing: read gas funny cars

It's an American car. The front wheels are quite odd. They look more modern than they are. I will try & dig up some more details.

Man, this monster is going into OVERDRIVE! Thanks to everybody, what a cool thread.

This thing is in a garage right here in SONOMA. My friend Chris updated the chassis a while back. I heard (read?) (HERE maybe?) Pete Chapouris put a big block in it back in the NDRA days and was running mid-low 10s. Anybody know any more?

I took that photo at Irwindale in 1966. Dutchman is racing Les Richey who was killed shortly after this photo was taken at Fontana.

And here we've all been giving Chrysler credit for the birth of the AWB car. Could this be the true origins of the Funny Car?

They look a bit like modified steel wheels. Is the original photo clearer?

This is partly a guess, but I seem to remember that the "Silencer" belonged to Sherm Gunn, the "S" in M&S Welding (along with Mike Hoag, who used to work at Blair's before starting M&S.

M/T valve covers add a nice, rustic, period perfect touch. The close proximity of spectators is also reminiscent of days long ago; a time when you were close enough to peer into the driver googles and see him blink. And the Nitronics Research sticker plastered along the side of the injector hat denotes the teams appreciation for the once finer things in life.
