I drove past that in '67 driving the T pickup to St. Louis from L.A.
Damn shame. We are losing our grand roadside landmarks a little bit here and a little bit there. Man, I'm glad I grew up in the 50's and 60's.....

Didn't it make an episode of the FOOD Network's Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives? Sucks to lose that much history.

We should all send her one piece of car memorablia each to help with the rebuilding.

That's a bummer deal. :( My grandma's aunt used to run the Rock Cafe when my mom was a kid and my grandma and her sister worked there when they were younger.

  11. Ive been there many time and Dawn is a very kool person,I have a picture at home of the neon sign being lit for the 1st time in like 25 years, taken in like 1998.........if I can resize I'll post it........

Saw it on the news last night, it looked like the building was probably gutted but the building itself look to be mostly ok. I'd never eaten there until about a month ago and it was decent and interesting place. Old 66 between Oklahoma City and Tulsa is pretty interesting drive.

i'm down with gathering up some memorabilia for her... man, i really hope she does rebuild!

  15. What a loss! Been by there many times headed up 66 to Tulsa from Okla. City. Some landmarks left between here and Tulsa but many are gone. But the "Round Barn" in Arcadia is still there! Allways try to stop at these "mom & pop" places and avoid the plastic, corporate homoginized, one fits all, processed food places! UGH!

Anyone got any pics of this place, before and after, to post?

  19. I used to work with Dawn's husband. I'll see if I can get ahold of him and let him know about the memorabila offer.

    Bummer..that looks ugly..
i hope she had it insured well, and i hope this doesnt discourage her from re-building, or trying to salvage what is left, and continue to be the rock cafe..
