Hahahahahaha...maybe "farmboys" is the optimum word here and "Mid-Missouri" is the second and "trucks" is the third optimum words...perhaps, Fraz, if you'd quit working on them "farmboy" trucks, you wouldn't be so worked up about a dependable SBC.

You can't judge the taste of a whole barrel of apples by fishing out a few bruised ones and biting into them...

  2. damn.. i love this*****.. people.. it is a nice car.. the guy that owns it wants to drive the wheels off of it.. it has a mustang up front.. he wants power steering.. it has a vintage air.. he wants cold.. it already had a c-4 in it . .. face it.. with all the accessories and the fact that the car will have the***** driven out of it.. the sbc is the user friendly way to go.. its kind of hard to pick up a water pump for a flatty in east bubblefuck at 2am.. call it what you want.. streetrod.. hotrod... custom.. abortion.. whatever.. he will have a******en car that he can enjoy.. thanks for the input.. you people rock... the different opinions and visions of individuals make this hobby kick****.. 50 people can take the same car and turn out 50 versions of it.
oh yeah.. my 57 ford is ford powered and my 59 townwagon will be sporting a hemi.. ... mark

    Mark,

It's all in fun (for most of us!) anyway. Looks like it'll be a neato (to use a word Tex Smith seemed to like!) car.

After you put in the small block chevy , make sure you go to K Mart and pick up a new chrome kit and some cool stickers.

Mark you 'are the man!' What a can of worms you opened! WOW! And it's not even YOUR car....about the unforgivable sin of your SBC swap I would just like to say......
back in 1979 I restored the 'Rod & Custom Dream Truck' after its' destruction in 1958.The truck had been built by a number of legendary customizers over a period of years back in the 50's applying many new inovative ideas never before seen or used until this remarkable 'move to the future'. 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the restoration of this piece of history and one interesting side note.... it was the FIRST SBC conversion in the history of the world. How many swaps do you think have transpired since that infamous day back in 1953? Just some food for thought. Is the swap too 'modern' for traditional car guys?

So now we know who to blame for starting this mess! Traditional or not...I'm sick of hearing about and looking at Chevrolet engines...especially in Ford products. I realize that it is not my car, but I reserve the right to not like what he is doing to it and to express my opinion. I say again, we were baited into getting this unresolvable argument going again. If you don't want to hear about it...don't post it!

  14. i do what i can, kind sir.. but... when i grow up... i wanna be just like you carl.. and i aint joking.. i wish i had 1/100 the builds under my belt that you have.. sir.... you a r e the man!!

  15. damn rages on like a mud wrestling match at aunt viola's BBQ and bordello!
so what you doing with the flattie? is it for another project? selling , sold , boat anchor?

  16. i never said i didnt want to hear about it.. if i didnt.. this thread would have never been started. nowhere but the H.A.M.B. can you post info regarding a project and receive the instant, honest and passionate opinions of people that are truly involved in this hobby.
as far as baiting you. not so. i****umed that the people of the H.A.M.B are imune to that type of ploy. if not, i would have no respect for the opinions that you offer. on the contrary, it is these opinions that i was looking for.
please understand.. the vehicle was already less than H.A.M.B friendly.. it has a c4, it has a mustang II,and it is on bags.
i was curious to see what the reaction would be to taking it another step further.. i got and still am getting my answer.. thank you..
on the upside.. i never had any intention of posting "build" photos.. i agree.. that would put most everybody here to sleep crying..

also..everything posted in this thread will be shared with the car owner.

as far as the sarcasm goes.. this would be boring without it.. .. again... thank you.... mark

Shit...now I need to find a different motor for my 61 bubbletop. Oh wait a minute, it's a Chevy! Whew...that was close.

So what*****in idiot started this "Ford in a Ford"*****? There nothing traditional about that, it's some marketing***** from the Ford Performance group to sell crate motors. How*****in myopic can some of you be? When the Olds and Caddy OHV motors came out the flatheads got their****es handed to em. A scant 6 years later here comes a lighter version (SBC) and the rest is history. Has there ever been an engine that had dominated every class it was ever raced in for as many years? No, probably not. In the end, 00MACK got it right on this topic. The SBC haters need a big cup of shut the***** up.

Gladly the owner of the car is doing what they want. That means they are not being TRENDY. Hot rodders care about going fast not that the engine looks right.

  21. People, no one (With half an idea) are complaining a SBC is not traditional, just boring. Using one makes you a mindless sheep, no imagination.

    You want reliability?
    MAINTAIN YOUR*****ING MOTOR!
Anything can be reliable provided you care for it.
If you cant, don't own an old car. Buy a modern plastic***** box and have the service department and RACV care for it.

    Doc.

Rod & Custom Magazine started it in the early 70's, so I hope you aren't calling the great writers and editors, of that period in R&C's history, idiots. If you are, then YOU need to shut the***** up.

Actually, I think the people complaining that people use them are the mindless sheep. The people who use what they like and want for whatever reason are the real hot rodders. They don't need an expensive or different motor to make them elite. I respesct any engine as long as it was built to run. Needs compression. Needs a hot cam. Needs to be bad**** in a hot rod.

I agree with your statement about reliability.

Lets also combine the drum vs disc brake discussion into this beating of the horse.

I think he did ask "what do you think" by making that statement about sheep. Are you so flustered you can't articulate properly? It's just an engine man!
