At the time, Myer and Cluff were being based out of Arizona. This car was a frequent party crasher at the weekly AA/GS circuit events-quite competetive. It ended up being sold to a guy who raced it in Bracket 1 w/a SBC. Equally deserving of comment is the Flower Power Cuda of Ernie Nicholson as seen partially in the background. Nicholson is often overlooked when the subject of Arican American drag racers is brought up. Tony Nancy built the 426 Hemi that powered the car

Would this be the Lujan Bros from Salinas, California? They ran a Lycome powered rail in AHRA.

Another shot of the same car. The Nickelson Tool & Die Dragster also ran a Lycoming motor.

  13. Check the spindle mount front wheels. Those are bitchen!! Have to be one offs. Is that a turbo on the front of the engine? What a cool little car.

    Hi Guys,

GREAT THREAD, and THANKS to ALL who have posted!!!

I'm wondering if anyone has any more pictures of Bill Lindner's "CC Rider" - 1938 Willys Coupe, 5-time NHRA champ in CC/GS?

    Car won:

    67 Indy Nationals
    67 Niagara Gold Cup
    68 Spring Nationals
    68 Indy Nationals
    69 Spring Nationals
    69 Indy Nationals

I've posted some shots of the car from 1967 to it's current, ALMOST RESTORED condition! I've owned the car for about 4 years.

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Rocky Pirrone and Bill Ellershaw, I've gotten it this far! They saved me from an "unhappy situation," that had some good work, but had hit a road block. Next winter, the final touches, including a new engine and the return to a 4-speed will complete our effort.

It already looks different than it did at the WHR in Buffalo. Hinges have been chromed, has a Willys front axle, everything chromed in the front, Hallies in the rear, etc.

Bill Lindner is working with me on the engine project, which will go in next winter. Bill managed to get Ohio George to do some machining on the manifold to fit the Montogmery/Robinson supercharger (#149 of 150) - one of 3 that Lindner bought back in 1968.

You'll notice that the color (Sierra Gold Metallic) looks different in almost every shot! Bill said that it's dead on for accuracy. I hope he wasn't just being nice! It varies tremendously, according to the light...

    The pictures are (in order):
    1) arriving at Indy in 67
    2) tech inspection at Indy in 67
    3) weigh in, Indy 67
    4) engine, as in 67
    5) Winner's Circle, 67
    6) Lindner with the car, 68 or 69 (notice it has Hallies in the rear now)
    7) Winner's Circle, 68
    8) 1968 - looks salmon pink in this shot!
    9) Sept 1, 1968 at Indy
    10) "CC Rider" vs. Bruce Larson at Indy
    11) 1970 - (you can tell this is 70, since the CRANE CAM decal is different)
    12) at Nagara, 68 or 69 (this is probably the most "famous" picture of the car)
    13) next owner, Rod Phelps, coming off the line at Niagara, 1971
    14) WHR, Buffalo, August, 08
    15) WHR

"CC Rider" was almost exclusively a "northeast" car, and this may be why there are relatively few pictures of it around.

ALL the shots in this thread are great, and I'm hoping that somebody has a shot of "CC" hidden away someplace!

Hope you enjoy these, and thanks for the opportunity to post!

    BEST regards,

    Dave Lamb

  16. I expected to see the big round sticker on the windshield with the "T" for trophy winner. I wonder when that tradition started?

    THANKS, Skywolf,

I've got this one, but I appreciate your posting it!

I guess this one is probably the MOST famous shot of it. This is at Miami Dragway (Speedway?) from 67.

    THANKS AGAIN!

    Dave
