I'm safe in Guthrie, but it looks like the worst set of fires in state history. The cold front with north winds just hit Guthrie so it looks like things are going to get worse.

from stillwater to the texas line.it's bad chad

  5. Good luck to you guys over there.
But keep your head on straight. Get the fuck on out if you have to. A water hose wont do much against a big fire.

Better time spent is hacking down as many weeds close to your home, cars, as possible.

I was watching a show about a big fire in New Mexico (IIRC) and everything went up except one house. The guy had raked away all the pine needles, etc from around his property. When he fled, he left the rake against his house. When he came back, all was intact, and a firefighter has written on the handle of the rake "this rake saved your home"

Good luck guys, stay safe. Evacuate if told, dont stay. If it is that bad there is NOTHING you can do to save anything. Get out of there, stuff can be replaced, people can not.
We Aussys know what you are going through.

I've been smelling the smoke all day. Lots of fires north and west of us here. Around Bowie, Decatur, Bridgeport. So far nothing close. Take care of yourselves. Be safe.

Take care all. Be safe and take care of each other. Up here in the Northeast part we had tornado warnings out. None were spotted. I spent 22 years on our fire dept. Grass fires can get wickked quick. Keep your head up. God speed.

stay safe and take care of the family....Im in Owasso watching this on tv.... unbelievable!

  17. Midwest City and Choctaw, OK have got hit real bad! The fire started two miles west of my house and got within 1/2 mile to the North, then kept right on going East and North. The winds are shifting South as I write this, so I am by no means out of the woods yet.

Lots of fires statewide, especially in eastern Oklahoma County, and Garvin, Lincoln, Cleveland, and Pottawottamie counties, plus Stillwater and points East, and Carter County, around Ardmore. This shit sucks!

I got tornadoed out five years ago almost to the day. I sure as hell don't want to get burned out!

Oh, and BTW, the cars don't fucking matter! ALL material goods can be replaced. About the only things that can not be replaced are pictures and such. I've been there.

Prayers for all affected by this.

  20. I-40 and Anderson Rd is still open. The road is blocked at SE 29th and Anderson to traffic going North and West from there. Power is out in spotty areas around there, too.

The wind just shifted from the West to blowing from the North. I don't think I'll be getting much sleep.

  21. Best of Luck. Yeah........the wind is howlin .

Here on the west side of OKC everything is OK. Just last month I purchased my project car from an older gentleman who has a home in Midwest City but is living in Choctaw. According to the news there are fires in both these areas. I sure hope everything is good with him and his family. Us Okies are tough though.

Before you do any more computer posts, you better throw all your family pictures, credit cards, birth certificates, bank statements, social security cards and any cash you have in boxes and load them in the car, along with a couple week's worth of clothes. A couple full gas cans in the trunk or pick-up bed wouldn't hurt either. Park it in the driveway, ready to go (not in the garage, in case the power goes out).

If you've got a trailer, get your project car on it (along with any parts made from Unobtainium) and have it hooked up and ready to go. Remember that your car can also be used to carry stuff in it, so anything other family valuables (Aunt Mildred's chamber pot, Cousin Larry's ashes) should be loaded up.

Better to be ready to hit the road when the police come knocking with the "Clear out!" order at 2am.

Probably wouldn't hurt to set the sprinklers up and be watering the lawn all night.
    Best of luck to you.

    -Brad

  29. Thoughts and prayers are with my Okie pals. I have been flooded out and we get HUGE fires in the Black Hills but I do not want to experience the latter personally.
