so let's see your 3rd brakelights. i want something that is vintage. not a led strip. my car will be pretty low and with the brakelights in the bumper guards i think it's probably a good idea to run some thing in the back window. please give me some insiration.

I seriously doubt that you'll find anyone on here running a third brake light. Not exactly a traditional feature, if you catch my drift...

I was going to ask the same question. Mine is for my avatar truck. I think I have seen some model A ones that say "stop" on the lens?

Don't want to start Sh*t storm, but at some point safety trumps other considerations. That said, I installed a third brake light on my 29 coupster. I used a third brake light off of a early 90s Chrysler LeBaron convertible. They are made for exterior use, unobtrusive, cheap and small were they need to be small. Sorry no pictures, Haven't taken the time to learn how to post them.

Some late '40's early '50's Buicks and Chryslers (and a few others I can't remember) had trunk mounted tail lights that could be converted to third brake lights.
Most customs traditionally got all that **** shaved off though.
My '57 TR-3 had a red tail light in the (Lucas generic) license lamp that could be converted to a two filament bulb for a brake light.

If this is for actual "I don't want to get rear ended by the idiot drivers around here" reasons put a big *** light on the package tray in the back window because that's the only place they will be looking for one.

What about a magnetic one to mount on your package tray just for driving? I plan on doing that. With a very lowered car, and tail lights mounted in the bumper guards, I want a temporary 3rd brake light just for driving purposes, but removeable.

If I just had to have one, thank God I don't, I might start at modifying a Model-A or 30s era truck tail light and use a halogen bulb. I use halogens in my 50 Pontiac gl*** lens lights, they are much brighter.

  12. I have a old fluted gl*** and br*** light that I use as a plate light and 3rd light don't know what its from but looks cool and adds just a little more stop light power I, more concerned in the bright sun that some people are not as mind full....I ll get a picture when I get home.

How about a red flood type light that sits flush in the package tray, and projects the light onto the window, making the window glow red? not sure how well it would work in the daytime though, just an Idea...

Here is mine. Pretty Traditional since it came on the car new in 48.

Although, when new it was the only brake light.

I used the FORD oval logo generally found on receiver hitch inserts. Mine is on the wood tailgate on my '29 CCPU flatbed.

While I know I'll get flamed on the subject, I'd rather be seen than rear ended. A lot of you guys that are knocking LED's are probably young enough to be my grand sons! A lot of being traditional is staying alive!

Tradition be damned; this really is a must if you live in any metro area with todays traffic
congestion. Our 30's-40's cars have very small tail/brake lights and are not readily visible, especially in bright sun. A removable 3rd brake light is a smart idea to protect your investment!
(Had too many close calls with my OT car; mounted a 3rd b-light at the TOP of the rear window; no close encounters since.....)

I just ordered one, been putting it off long enough. I'll let you know how it looks. I found this a few years ago when I started to drive my 56 as a daily driver. Got nervous a few times. $21 and change is a heck of alot better then $120 for that ford one above.

I put a generic one in my back window and painted it flat black so you really can't see it unless it's lit. As far as I'm concerned, I dont need some inattentive soccer mom or the like gabbin on the cell phone, ramming my rear end cause they did'nt see my little 36 ford tail lites. My sedan is'nt TRADITIONAL by some of your standards, even though I did ALL the work myself and it is for the most part a REAL HOT ROD, I just dont feel like redoing it all cause of some asleep at the wheel ***hole.Mitch

The asleep at the wheel ***hole is going to hit you, because they are asleep... and an ***hole.

You could shine a Laserbeam in their eyes.

But whatever makes you feel better...

Well you know you're probably right, but that little light in my rear window is my one concession to modern transportation and idiotic driving habits. Mitch

This had been posted before...do a search. This isn't much of a pic, but it gets the point across.

The third brake light is from a '27 Buick...that seems fairly traditional.

You could use a part of a 18th century Steamtrain.

That doesn't make it Traditional as a 3rd brakelight.

Like I said... whatever makes you feel better.

    But dont kid yourself..

if these guys want to put 20 lights across the back of the car they built and paid for..then more power to them....if you don't..then more power to you.but always playing this macho traditional **** down to the last bolt and nut is giving the hobby a bad rep....if it feels good and you are shelling out the bucks..do it...don't ask fools for nuttin...
