You'll see it at LSRU this year, but I thought I'd post a teaser to what has been going on with my 5-1 lately...

Well, many of you shared the carnage real-time with me as I posted my hood misfortune enroot Pistons and Paint last November.

Thanks to the Chup’s and the Yayhoos, the weekend was still one of the finest times I can remember but once back in the garage the Monday after the show, the site was downright depressing. I knew I had to act quickly or this was going to turn into festering frustration.

The question was who could match the candy and the flake without having to repaint the whole piece of **** again? Enter my cigar buddy; Von Franco who mentions he has a fellow club member who can fix it. At this point, I’m thinking “I hope it’s Jeff Myers” low and behold it was Jeff Myers (aka FINKD). Jeff’s easy going and confident demeanor had the job by the end of the first phone call, the only obstacle was Jeff’s shop is 500 miles to the north, so a road trip was in order and off to Ark City we go…

New Years day turned out to be a beauty of a day for a road trip, so armed with a dozen kolachis from the Czech Stop (thanks Yayhoos’ for the tip, a must stop now every time I find myself traveling I35. Oh yeah, the Dr Pepper Cake is amazing) RIXREX and I pulled into the south central KS town around 9:00PM that evening without incident.

The next morning, we we’re off to Premier Paint and Body where we were greeted by Jeff with a fresh pot of coffee in hand. After the requisite shop tour and a chance to drool over Jeff’s personal collection of rods and custom (oh that caddie…), we got ol’ fuzzy offloaded and secured the trailer to leave it behind for awhile.

The hospitality didn’t end at the shop, Jeff’ buddy Neal Reeves who runs the Zombie Speed Shop http://zombiespeedshop.wordpress.com/ joined us for a tour of the area and some pretty decent BBQ (Salt Licks on me when y’all get to Austin though)just over the the OK border. Over lunch, Jeff mentioned that Neal had done quite of bit of the electrical work to his 57 Cadillac and it wasn’t long before Neal had pitched me a bid to tidy up the wiring, add some door solenoids, and change out the 80’s camaro column that had been installed back at the beginning of the project.

Before heading out that afternoon, Jeff had one more stop in mind; a quick visit to Kool Rides http://www.koolrides.biz/ an honest to goodness speed shop about three blocks from Jeff’s house. I’m starting to realize what a hot rod Mecca this area really is and the whole “Wichita” thing is finally starting to settle in.

There’s another twist of irony or something here. The night that we were in the parking lot of the hotel in Denton, doing our best impression of a monkey ****ing a football to get into the jammed trunk, the Kool Ride’s trailer rolled in with Kirby at the wheel. After ascertaining what we were doing and getting the low-down on what happened to the hood, Kirby mentions that I should “bring it to Ark City, cause there’s a guy up here who will do you right”, little did I know. It was nice catching up with Kirby and Lee and as we talked, we ended up hashing out a deal on some custom laminate knobs for the dash.

Well we headed out shortly after that, made it home without a hitch and I settled in to do my best to be patient (something I don’t do well). Low and behold, I get a call a few weeks ago; "it’s done, come and get it!" I couldn’t wait and though I had to postpone my trip by a week due to the recent blizzard that hit the area, I got up there last week and man was I surprised.

I gave Jeff creative license to do what he needed to do and not only did he metal straighten the damaged hood, but he added some scallops, some striping, and a little more flake for a little something extra. Neals stuff looked great, and the Kool Rides Crew even installed some super kool, one off tear drops. Am I happy? Hell yeah! Take a look for yourself…

Wow! That car is flat ridiculous cool! Normally when someone shows off their paint, you say "yeah, you should see it in the sun". With this car, you look at the sun and say "yeah, you should see it next to that car". Gorgeous.

Very nice, Gregg! It certainly takes some skill to metal finish and match candy ....Jeff's got it!
