I believe Jim Morgan is preping the engine in Steve Sawka's Camaro now and has been helping him. Its the same car (borrowed from Steve) that Jim and Matt Morgan (428 Ford Mustang racer) ran in IHRA's TOP STOCK program a few years ago with a 502 crate engine.
I like the AAMCO sign on a stick car. I always they just worked on automatics. Red and White made for nice looking cars.
The Camaro I'm talking about is also silver w/black stripes. The driver is called "The Terminator". Son of Sam. National champion.
Hi Colesy The red and white "wagon master" car in your picture was owner and driven by Mr. Lightner. His son "Rod" drove a super stock camaro for the last 15 years and just recently sold his camaro. Tom Sheehan
Hi guys ... I'm considering 'attempting' to add NHRA Division (see http://www.nhra.net/tracks/dd.htm ) designations to our 'List' ... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3655040&postcount=1716 Bill 'Colesy' (who started this thread) has offered to provide some info from his vast resources, but It still could prove to be a daunting task. I'm up for it if you guys think it's a good idea. I do know the Divisions of 30 or so, but they are mostly Division 1, 2, and 7 racers. If we did this, the Division number should/would correspond with the car indicated, as many folks have relocated since that time period. We'd need some help ... so what do you think? Please post your thoughts and/or 'Private Message' me. *Sorry, but I could only download (image) logos from Divisions 1, 3, and 7!
I studied the lists posted above and was wondering if the Bill Wendt that runner-upped to Ted Harbet in M/S is the same that had the Smoky the Bear funny car, holds a few land speed records and is now racing midgets somewhere in Fla? Also wanted to know if the David Merkel was related to Jack that had the Willys gasser? <O</O Colesy, is Dickie Ogles on your list? Hes listed as the H/S winner. He ran the Silly Bear car for years, just wondered if the old Chevy listed as a class winner also had that name? Another name I was wondering about is Lamar Vauble, runner up in G/S. Seems he was a really good runner. Also, is Jerry Groffinet (The Tanker) out Dayton on your list? He had a killer black Chevy back then. I know that there are not many Division 3 names that have been on here, and I cant remember many. The above lists sort of jogged my memory. I just remember being watching these cars run at IRP for want seemed to be all day and almost to dark thirty. It sure was a sight, and then try to get out of there in the dark. Sure was fun.
That '57 wagon could very well be the Reich Bros. car. How about this one--- turns out a guy I work with used to own that car. We were shooting the breeze and bench racing a little and that car came up. My friend (John Phillips) said he bought the car from the Reich brothers without the motor but with (in his words) some kind of "killer" powerglide. The transaction supposedly took place at Larry Kopp's garage. According to John Phillips, the car was black with metal-flake silver and was a wagon and not a sedan delivery. When I learn more I wil post it.
It was a 150 series 2 door wagon. One of the brothers died a few years ago of cancer. I knew them pretty good as they raced IHRA with a Camaro quite often.
I ran my '69 Mustang GT convertible in H/S at Englishtown in the mid-70's. Times were 15.6 at around 95 mph through the mufflers. What is the difference between Pure Stock, Jr Stock and Stock?
Got back from the 27 th Annual Spring Englishtown (NJ) Swap meet, late on Friday. I left at 5 AM for the 'just-shy-of' 400 mile 'day trip.' As usual, I spent most of the 7-hour round-trip drive time on the New Jersey *Parking Lot (*AKA New Jersey 'Turnpike'). It was worth it! A beautiful Spring day spent visiting with old (vendor) pals, making new friends and walking past (most of) the offerings of the over 5,000 vendors was really invigorating! You couldn't go very far at all without hearing someone chatting about the H.A.M.B. -- especially the Junior Stock Thread. Two of the dozen or so 'HAMBers' I met was the enthusiastic (and very hospitable) vending team of Wayne Kerper and Frank Jones. Frank and another one of Wayne's pals kept an 'eye' on things in their joint-enterprise Drag-Racing-memorabilia related booth, while (mostly) Wayne scurried about to make change for the onslaught of 'C notes' thrust at him as he proceeded to 'offload' his merchandise -- what ... 'recession'? Aside from old (35-year-old-PLUS) *NHRA (*and other) rule books, pit passes, time cards, etc., etc. Wayne offered (reproduced) *UDRA decals and T-Shirts. *This is the logo/decal that all of you have seen (and many have 'lusted for') on my often-posted photo of the Scotto & Blevins E/MP '55 Nomad @ E-Town in '71. While admiring the decal, nice-guy Wayne said to me 'here ... take one'! A tiny bit of Wayne and Frank's wares can be seen below, along with a few other images I took (most around 8:00 AM!) that morning. You can contact fellow- HAMBer Wayne @ kerpskoolstuff@aol.com he just 'may' have a few goodies left!
Bill ... really don't wanna make you weep BUT .... On my way out I saw this guy (in his 50s) holding a huge ARMLOAD of MISC drag newspapers. He had a big smile 'from ear to ear' and was clearly 'on a mission' to get back to his car. I couldn't stand it, so I stopped him and asked (he was walking at about 5mph) if they were for $ale ... "NO," he said ... "I just bought them ... TEN BUCKS!" ....
"Where can I get a couple of those U.D.R.A. stickers for my back window?" (*RE: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3232322#post3232322 ) racemad55<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_3232322", true); </SCRIPT> ... now you know! <!-- / message -->
I just got home from the IHRA points race at MIR (Budds Creek) today and had the pleasure of meeting Dominick Rinaldi while he was in tear down after setting the B/SA record (on 7 cylinders) with his 1964 Plymouth Max Wedge wagon "Its Dynamite". He towed all the way from the state of Maine to race his wagon. Both his wife and Dom are great people and very dedicated to stocker racing. He said he will make the trip again to Richmond, Va. next month to reset the 1/8 th mile record hopefully on all 8 cylinders. STOCKERS RULE
I have two photo albs from the UDRA circuit 1967-1969 Gassers Modifeds and Street Roadsters. Need info on how to upload Pics. This is A Jr. Stock site is there a place on H.A.M.B. for the UDRA PICS ? I have UDRA Stickers for Sale.
Larry Watson lived a short distance from me, mine was an original 9 passenger wagon, he put the rear seat in his to make the class weight break. I ran a 56 sedan delivery in 1968 using the motor from the wagon plus a 4 speed hydro like the YOO HOO delivery of Wayne Jesel. Today he lives close to me and we both have 32 FORD roadsters. THANKS for asking.

Glad to have you here.Welcome.
