I'm trying to figure out how I would get a title for a completely home built rod. There is no specific donor. Starting from scratch with no numbers to go on how do you guys do it? I live in Tennessee I've emailed the state registration office and haven't gotten any replies yet not to say they aren't coming, but curiosity is killing the cat here.
Try a google search with "specially constructed vehicle Tennessee" lots of info including links to your DMV.
Dont go reconstructed. Just buy a title Your in for a lot of headaches.Youll need seatbelts .pollution pump, catalytic converters And anything alse a new car is equipped with. When choosing a titlle if the car is a one off.Pick something odd.Alot of cops weren't born when your car was constructed.
I just found on a rod magazine website anyone heard anything from it yet? "Tennessee Custom Vehicles: SAN legislation to create a vehicle registration and titling classification for custom vehicles was passed by the Tennessee Senate and was pending House consideration when the legislature adjourned. The measure defined a custom as an altered vehicle over 25 years old or manufactured to resemble a vehicle 25 years old or older. Under the bill, kit cars and replica vehicles would have been assigned a certificate of title bearing the same model year designation as the production vehicle it most closely resembles. The bill exempted customs from periodic vehicle inspections and emissions inspections and from a range of standard equipment requirements. The legislation also provided for a one-time registration fee of $25, valid as long as you own the custom vehicle. SAN is working with legislators to have the bill reintroduced in 2007."
Dept of Revenue Title and registration legislative updates from the Revenue Review paper a couple of months ago.... > Custom built cars Public Chapter 765 defines a custom built car as a motor vehicle that is built for private use and is not constructed by a licensed manufacturer or re-manufacturer. This chapter also provides that a custom built car for which no certificate of title has ever been issued may be titled as the make, model and year it most closely resembles. This chapter also requires that the certificate of title clearly identify the car as a replica. Effective date: April 21, 2008 So, maybe you should just go see you county court clerk(the license plate guy/gal) for more info
I read something about this a while back, I think in Street Scene, rolleyes: I know). I'd love to know if anyone has actually done this and how big of a PITA it is. I've heard the "historic document" route is easiest but seems a little shadey. We really need to learn more about this "Tennessee Custom Vehicles" registration.
