what a weekend, flew into austin on wednesday, greeted at the airport by gregg/ geeman51, had a fun day fidling with his shoebox to get it all ready, thursday it's off to reggie's for a great open house, catch up with a bunch of old friends and meet some new ones, fill up on bbq and check out the shop. from reggies it's off to thirsty thursdays at thunderbolt billy's place just up the road. another great little get together with really good people.
from there it was back to austin to meet up with wild bill and his wife cristine who also flew in from san diego for the weekend, a nice little casual gathering at a neighbor of gregg's and watching the weather station and the expected 2-3" of rain with the posibility of large hail on friday.
friday morning came way to early, as they seemed to the whole weekend, it was pouring, windy and just not the kind of shit you want to travel in unless you have to. about noon the weather cleared a little, still raining but not the road flooding showers of the morning, we packed in the 51 and headed to the show. we were greeted by steve under the barn, found a place to park and went wondering, within 5 minutes of entering the swapmeet i had spent way to much money and had to go back to looking at the cars to keep the wallet from completely emptying out. there were some great cars cramped under that barn, kinda made it feel like a smaller more friendly show, every step you'd run into an old friend or get introduced to a new one. a little later jimmie vaughn played a great set, after that it was back to town for a trip around congress and a few drinks at joe's.
saturday was much better weather, we took it easy after friday and didn't roll to the show till mid day, just in time to catch the second half of dale watsons amazing perfomance. after that we went back to the car and bs'd with the neighbors completely forgeting about the hamb meet, in reality the whole show was like a giant hamb meet so i didn't feel to bad about missing it. more wondering around then the word comes that gregg got a trophy, best custom presented by gambino and a.s.s. i'm real proud of him for that one, his cars been a long time coming and it looks amazing.
from the show it's off to the a.s.s. party, front row parking for the trophy winning car so it's right in the gate and into the action, the rev was at his best, in the packed building. sot some shitty texmex down the road and another trip down congress.
friday it was off to the flyrite open house, for more great texas hospitality, cars, bikes, music, bbq, and the valve cover races.

well since most won't take the time to read all that, lets just say it was a great weekend.

That gold 51(?) ford in the rain is beautiful. The drip rails really show off the nice chop.

Do you have any pictures of the Ford in the left edge of this picture? It looks like it is a pretty sweet Slick.

slowandlow, that was me, the one of the 3 with some hair on my head not my chin, thanks for the jump, that was a really long night. nice to meet you

sorry david no pictures of the truck, i'm sure someone got some though.

thanks guys it was a really fun time, we're already planning on doing the roadtrip/ drive out there next year. for those who haven't been this is one of, if not the best show i've ever been to.

Thanks for documenting the weekend Justin; you are always welcome.

Bill - thanks for the jump that night; the 51 doesn't charge well at idle (I have to change the pulley on the alternator) and the snails pace crawl along Riverside that night did me in. I owe you and your buddy a cold one next time we meet up.

No problem. Thats what the HAMBs for.

The funny part is, not 30 min before that my buddy's Riv died just as we made the right onto Congress. He was having battery trouble the whole wknd and kept having to get jumped if it sat more than an hour. The battery had a dead cell and was drawing more than the alt could put out at idle in traffic.
