i will start off by first saying i'm a disabled vet and have a few injuries, maladies, and ptsd. can't stand shopping, crowds, people in general...can't help it,uncle sam left me with that gift.
i stayed in my garage and tinkered for years,,,,,,we didn't have the internet, but i had my cars and custom car mags..my life since getting out of the military.
then along comes the computer, then the hamb....i lingered for years, then with a little reserve, joined and started posting..and yes at times i'm a grumpy old fart ,but i do know my ****.....so little by little i've ventured back out into the real world , participating in public events,cruises,shows..things i missed for 37 years...
so i thank ryan for the hamb..it's been a blessing for this disabled vet. i'm sure there are others that share this commom thread...i salute you for your service and willingness to live life through the hotrod culture...let's hear your hamb, car, therapy story before we get deleted...

hotrod linkin- thank you for your service!
I am a current member of the armed forces. I returned from Iraq in September of 07, and didn't feel like doing much of anything.Suffered from PTSD, and TBI. I would get bored with small tasks and leave them for weeks or months. I had mild memory loss and forget things all the time. I couldn't get into a rhythm. I joined the H.A.M.B in Dec of 07. Spent some time perusing the forum, and was amazed by all the cool builds, and projects people are working on. It allowed me to become focused and it was a therapy of sorts.

You are in good company, I'm a Viet Vet and an old fart too I suppose. The Hamb has been good therapy for me for a few years now.

Big thanks to all you guys who have seen combat. I have been in the Coast Guard for 18years now and just want to say thanks to all you ground pounders out there.

  14. #1 Thank you, I was never in the military, nor do I think I could have survived if I had.

#2 This deserves to go BTTT, another attaboy for Ryan.

Yes, we Vagabonds are even in Oklahoma. 'Linc, thanks for your service and glad being here has helped get you out and about again.

Got three kids in the military right now.

When I discovered this place it was like a light came on, I was no longer the stranger in a strange land, but a part of a much larger community. I can't tell you how many friends from all over the country (and world, for that matter) that I have made here.

Are you by any chance going to Dewey next w/e? I would love to shake your hand.

i may drive up,i don't have a very hamb friendly car at the moment that is running. my 66 chevelle is running good but meets with less enthusiasm as it is more of a car i built for me and my wife. it's yellow and flamed with a 468....but i do have projects...always projects

I thank you, and every other Vet for what you have done and are doing for the rest of us. I appreciate each of you, and take every opportunity to teach my children and grandchildren to do the same.

While Dewey has turned into a leadsled and hot rod show it is still an open show. Cruise on up and look for this guy...

I'll introduce you to some other northern Okie HAMBers.

Hey, first let me thank you for stepping up and doing what you had to do. Very much appreciated, never forget that.

You asked about HAMB or car therapy stories. My car therapy stories get written more each day, thats part of the fun of it. Its how I express creativity since I'm not musical or artistic.

The HAMB outporing of support for my brain tumor last fall was nothing short of outstanding. Very humbling and uplifting. Prayers work, as my tumor is in a dumpster somewhere, and I'm not!

Anything you need, just ask us.

    Cheers,
    John

BIG thanks to all you vets!!! I hope I get to thank you in person someday! My sister (my show partner) did 28 months straight smack in the middle of Bahgdad during 06-07. She is back in the states now and hopefully we will hit some hangouts, bbq's and shows soon.

The only things that have kept me going in my last 3 combat tours is my wife, my friends, and my cars. So when I found the H.A.M.B it made it all that much better.

Now I just gotta get my **** home so I can enjoy it all.
