I was looking through Hemmings and saw a listing (p.317) under the 55-57 Chevys for what claims to be the original Scotto and Blevins Nomad.
The claim is true. That is the real deal.Rick has done a great job on the car.I have helped some on that car, towed it to York a few times and will be sorry to see it go.If I had money it would be mine but life goes on.We are only the current caretakers of everything we have and own.Don't be afraid to cough up $ for this car because it's real and done right.
Would like to see the UDRA photos and decals. Live about 10 miles from you in Richboro. Let me know if we can work something out. Thanks.
Welcome to the Junior Stock Thread Wayne! Do you think we could see at least a 'sampling' of the old Vargo dragway pics that you forgot that you had sitting in the Suburban at Englishtown? And Wayne, I'm pretty-sure we all would enjoy it if you posted some (scanned) images from the half dozen very-early issues of Super Stock Magazines you $cored on Saturday ... especially the Monster Mash piece! And, by the way, say hi to your (Junior-Stock fan) pal Frank Jones for me and ask him to post some of his (and his dads) great drag-race-related 'Memories' Cheers! ... Steve *Vargo Dragway ('08 reunion) images! --> http://rides.webshots.com/album/568507494Nxrqsk
Google JUST released two new brand-new very-neat (search tool) features. The story here--> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/04/21/google_similar_images_news_timeline/ See 'Similar Images' here--> http://similar-images.googlelabs.com/images?q=junior+stock&b=Search+images And see the (scrollable) 'News Timelines' here--> http://newstimeline.googlelabs.com/ Post #628 of our 'humble little thread' pops up FIRST when using the "Similar Images" tool by typing "Junior Stock" ... the result features this image of Ed Hamburger's early ride!
To anyone that is on this site looking at pictures and reading all the posts, we would like to hear your stories. Everyone has something they remember from the 60's-70's of stock /junior racing. No matter how insignificant you think it is,someone will benefit by it or it will bring to mind for somebody else something they forgot. That is what has brought this to 120 pages. Maybe you know of more names to add to the stocker cars list or a story about a former well known car that was for sale or that you know of that is sitting and forgotten about. I know that many of you view but are not members. Why not join today ,it only takes a few minutes and we will all benefit by what you have to say. Dominick Rinaldi

in 68 soon after the INDY NATIONALS .a track in Fairmount W.V. held a stocker meet . first place $500.00 (WOW). i went with JACK (Worrell) he had just won class at INDY .with his 50 OLDS wagon .there was a large turn-out; 500.00 in 1968. down to the last two cars .JACK and a local car. after winning JACK is told that he must rerun the final ,due to handy-cap error.JACK wins again.now he must pass a cu.in.test. a P&G tester was used .results NO GOOD .(over size) checked 2or3 cyl's .no good JACK asked if he could pull a cyl. head & have the bore &stroke checked.we had traveled from PHILA. for the meet.500.00 was a lot of money!.the track sait OK .but hurry it is getting late .we were lucky that one of GREG;X;ES crew was on hand with mikes .every thing checked out OK they paid with a good check.THANK GOD .$500.00.was a lot of money .DOM i hope you liked my story THANKS JAKE
Just going through my extensive magazine collection and found these two issues: SS & DI June and July 1996 First part covers the East Coast scene, with specific mention of Jenkins-Stahl-Duffy-Truppi-Kling, along with some Mid-West mention. Second issue is Part 2: The West Coast influence. It covers heavy hitters like Allread, Lambeck, Barkley, Dianna and Ripes. This two-part Junior Stock series is the only reason I purchased these issues back then. Funny how little things have changed in the past 13 years in drag racing--outside of increased hp, torque and performance figures, and of course, more bizarre-looking race cars! Now just contrast that with the thirteen year period from 1962-75. Light years difference!!! These two issues are in mint condition. Contact me if you're interested in them.* Regards, Pete peterk426@gmail.com *FYI, I am not a magazine dealer. These are from my private collection which I'm starting to part out. I only posted them here 'cause it's on-topic and figured someone would be interested.
$500.00 in 1968 had about the same buying power as $3,100.74 in 2009. * from http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm Great story Jake!
Okay, Dom, here's my two-cents: The very first time I ever attended a drag race was at Raceway Park, Madison Township, NJ (remember when it was called that?), in early May, 1971 on a Saturday afternoon. Turned out it was a WCS meet! Boy, was this young man excited!! I never, ever, in my entire life nor since then, seen so many 1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevies of all colors and body-style combinations!! Regards, Pete
"been to a car show lately ??" Last September, on Main St. in South River, NJ....small local show. What I witnessed racing that Spring day in May 1971 dwarfed any assemblage I've ever seen in my lifetime at the strip OR on the street OR any car shows I've ever attended here in the northeast. I'm sure some national convention of 1955-57 Chevies surpasses what I saw numbers-wise...but drag car-wise, I doubt it. Regards, Pete
P426,Could you post some pics from your Raceway News collection relevant to this topic. Some of my posts have not been, so I apologize to the membership.
1.) Did other divisions have programs simular to Div.1's N.E.D. Pro Stock Circut. What did they call it in '70 after NHRA took the name for the "Factory Hot Rods"? 2.) When did static burnouts become S.O.P. instaed of dry hops? 3.) How well did Hydro's & Glides stand up to Neutral Starts? 4.) How was the "durability" of the three speeds and T-10's? 5.) Who gets credit for Slapper Bars and why didn't the snubbers hit the spring eye?
