I think it was last July my ex bro inlaw called me and asked if I was interested in his dads abandoned Caddy project. (His dad passed away). I thought the price he was asking was probably ok if the car was at least put together and running, but he was firm. He called me a week or so ago and offered it up to me again at a much lower and reasonable price. So Ill be bringing it home Friday or Sat. Thought Id post up a few pics. Interior was being redone, but the upholsterer guy closed up shop before he finished installing it and he also took the front seat...never to be seen again. Continental kit rear will have to go. Engine is rebuilt but not installed, not sure about the trans. Body and paint work done, but color and quality leave much to be desired. Tons of work to do to get it back on the road. I have no idea what Ill do with it. I really wish it was convertible. (Ive been jonesing for a big ol convertible since I sold my 61 Lincoln.) I thought about a carson top, but being in the NW something I could easily put the top up on would be a smarter bet. I also have a 1941 Caddy sedanette I need to get to. Plus a couple of non Hamb friendly rides. I wish I could resist these deals that come my way LOL
Nothing wrong with snagging a Coupe de Ville. A lot of good upgrades were made in '56. My first thought was that the color would have to be changed but I'm waivering. With a set of fat wide whites and a bit of lowering I think this car would be cherry as it sits. Hopefully you were able to get the bumpers because replacing them will cost you.
Its all there except the front seat. Tons of stainless, all the bumpers and I think a couple sets of caps. It was a complete running car when they started.
Could be made a convertible with the right donor car, but it's pretty nice as a hardtop and it's already painted. I'd just put it together and use what's there, should be a nice car. I agree on the Conti kit, hopefully you can sell it for some good coin to go toward the project.
driving a 50's caddy is ALWAYS a good thing. If you dont like talking to people then dont own one. Great new project. If its all there put that thing on the road. you wont be sorry. Im in the process of building a new motor for mine so im jonesing right now for mine.
Good score! The color wouldn't be my first choice but I could live with it, and the best part is it's done. I would work on just getting the thing back on the road. Maybe just consider painting the top a different color so as to cut down on the purple, maybe a white pearl or a flaked silver?
cool, keep me posted on the build. Love the old caddys. son has a 69 with under 80k on it. been in the family since 1970. for sale now though....
I feel you on the Conti kit. My car has one, and my family (wife and father) give me a hard time whenever I remove it. This time it's staying off. And on the covnertible part....I sooooo want to do that! If you got it cheap, do what you like with it. They are fun...oh, and paint the top Big Flake Silver. Conti kit
Man, you keep saying that***** about cutting into a vert. That car is way too nice to cut up. I know you have been told this on here SEVERAL times. Buy a 4 door for 1200 bucks to cut up and carson. Sorry had to say it one more time. I heart your ride.
I said I want too...not that I currently have the balls to actually do it. Still got my weekly search going for a reasonable 50-53 cadillac Vert to rebuild... But now I am looking at adding something like this to my collection. would look nice behind the cadillac...
Im with charles, I would much rather have a convertible. But dont want to mortgage the house to get one. I heard a rumor there might be a 56 convertible rust bucket a couple hours from here that I may be able to get all the vert stuff off of. Not sure if my skill level could do the conversion or not. A couple of my other cars Ill be keeping for sure. No real idea what Im going to do with this one yet. Ill clean it up some and give it a good going over when it comes home later today. ( He was on his way last night and blew a tire on his trailer) It may go in the classifieds as is...or might put it together and sell...or I might love it...LOL...Im a junkie when it comes to this stuff.
