Don't let the Corvette purist talk you out of restoring it as a race car! They will make you feel like a pedofile if you don't put it back bone stock, but this car should be back to it's hot rod roots!
Great find. You are 'Lucky', all my 'Barn Finds' are rat nests & junk farm equiptment. Keep the paint. Please post some pictures after you wash & wax it. Lucky667
times 3. i'd walk by a row of 100 "bloomington gold" 100 point corvettes to drool all over this one! i'd give my left nut to own a piece of hot rod history as cool as this one!
I agree with the advice of the others who have said to leave it as. Just polish up the dull paint and do not worry about the stress cracks. I would add some traction bars, it must have had some when it was raced. Any decent 327 will require some extra help to tie down that rear.
This car is BAD ASS the way it is !!! Sure hope i dont read a thread on how to install a 700r4 & 350 or How to adapt S-10 disc brakes to it. This car needs to be Run & Drive "AS IT WAS" with no BullShit upgrades ! VERY COOL FIND !!
Congratulations! That looks awesome and, with a little wash and wax and some period speed equipment, will give you many years of enjoyment. Good luck on finding out a little more on its history.
In case someone else didn't mention it, BM/SP was a class that stood for B modified Sports car. This is a very neat Vette that i'm sure you will eventually find history on. Chrome reversed wheels, Casler cheater slicks and a set of Firestone 6.70x15's up front ! Stick your 327 with a 4 speed in it, then call it the day ! I can see this in Rodders Journal ! Congrats !
The history is priceless! Leave it the way it is, and have fun with it. you will be surprised to see how many people will come up to you and say " I remember this car back in the day..." Been there, the cool thing is there will be more "lookers" at it the way it is now, than if you did a $100,000 make over.
I agree 1000%! Preserve, preserve, preserve! Early 'Vettes like that make the bitchenest race cars ever. You drive that thing into the Twilight Cruise at the Hoilday Inn on Friday night this June at the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion and you'll have to beat people away with a stick just to get out of it! I love it. Great colors, hand lettering, and the ability to drop in a very cool 331 CID small block. Matching numbers? Well, the engine would match the lettering on the front fender and that's good enough for me and a lot of other people! I'm geen with envy!
Great Find, and I have to agree, a built 327, maybe with a hilborn fuely intake, 4 speed, a bit of polish and drive the crap out of it.
I'm thinking TR-1. Either way, congrats on a killer find! Makes me so happy just knowing they're still out there...
Great find Latham. I agree with others it would be very cool restored to it's track persona. HOWEVER, that is a really rare and valuable car. You MIGHT find some serious cash is available from the fiberglas car crowd. SERIOUS cash! Go to Ebay and search. At the moment there are three project cars...price range 8700-16,900 and all of them appear worse than yours and all have no drivetrain.
did the extra hood have a hole for a blower is it tubbed i ask cause i found this one. maybe your vette has a picture posted somewhere i am searching for yours http://www.nhraonline.com/museum/features/feature28.html a couple of cool vettes here http://gassermadness.com/msp/
