  2. Great photos again guys. Pete's site is gearing up for Long Island racing action so make sure you check out his link, there will be lots more in the weeks to come as action begins to build up.
    Here is the Troyer/Daytona Video.

You're forgiven! Besides, they're not my photos. I found them on a website! And you fixed them up nice.

I believe it was Fred Smith, who has since passed away. I can't remember the name of the guy who bought his collection, but he appears at car shows in the central NY area I believe.

Also known as the Flying Fossil, and still driving (or was recently). Not sure if either of these was the car that ended up in the grandstands; I seem to recall that it was his #37 coupe.

  16. That shot of Roy Halquist reminds me that a spare fast back body shell stood up against a retaining wall at the tire shop for a couple of years.

Hi, if it WAS Fred Smith, then I believe John Grady and former Gater News columnist Ted Schmidt purchased all of Fred's negatives. I helped scan/Photoshop/burn-to-CD a lot of them for Ted, but I did not see anything past '75, if I recall...

Here's what you can do for your old photos, using just an Adobe Photoshop program and some seat-of-the-pants trial-an'-error learning... It looks 100% better and it's not finished yet! There is hope for your old photos!

Tom Polizzi was kind enough to let me borrow this Gordon Reinig pic (most of Gordie's '72 negatives were lost) of Bob Merz at Lancaster (NY) Speedway in 1972. I promised to "fix" it and get it back to him. Thanks, Tom!

These are photos from the Wednesday-night RoC (Trenton) Qualifier and the regular Saturday-night show. Evans' appearance was a big deal in '73. Richie had patched up his differences with NASCAR and decided to compete for the NASCAR Modified championship -- and Lancaster instituted the ill-fated "Series '70" rule (all cars had to use '70-or-newer tin complete with hoods and front fenders) and Richie refused to alter his car. (By the time this race was run, Lancaster had dropped the rule and it was interesting to see who kept their fenders...) Richie ran at Lancaster almost every week from '69 to '72 but in '73 he only visited twice...

The No. 51 Gremlin is Gary Cornelius. The No. 99 Valiant is, of course, Geoff Bodine.

Say a prayer for Gordie tonight. He'll be laid to rest Saturday morning. -- JB

Perhaps Gordie Reinig's favorite photo: (L to R) Gordie, Roger and Merv Treichler at Gordie's coach at Lancaster (NY) Speedway, 1969. Gordon Reinig photo.

Dr. John, thanks for posting the pic of the #33 Bob Merz coach. I am gathering reference for a 1/8 scale build very similar to that car and the look of the #33 is just what I'm after. Nice!

Another good source for 1/25 resin model parts for modifieds, including bodies, many styles of wide five wheels and lots of other short track goodies....

Starting to go through some old pics and thought it might be nice to share some. Most of my pics only go back to the mid-late 70s, I'm only 42, but the cars are still pretty sweet looking.

X3 is Jim Hendrickson, Durkin #12 and the #16 is Tom McCann. All shots are from Wall Stadium in NJ.
