I love these threads. Can't learn enuff. I have one for ya's...in Motown in the early 60s. A builder named Pasternak (sp?). I think it was a 50s Ford with a TV and such. Saw it when I was in elementary school. Even then I wasn't impressed with the style but it harkened to the time, maybe more east coast looking. Was in the 64 or 65 Det Autorama. He lived in Dearborn Heights, MI.
Educate a n00b, but where does a car like that end up? its hardly, discreet, I dont know a place where that would not get photographed and noticed..... does someone here have it and is just keeping quiet about it
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Was it this ugly?Walt Pasternak 56 Ford built by( Mr.nice guy) Bill Hines First painted pearl.----------T.C.
This photo from the Barry Mazza Collection shows the car in sad shape. The fins are missing. When Barry send me the photo he believed it was still around. But somebody on my site left this note: "It was destroyed in a building fire in Pleasanton, California in May 1985. The full story appears in the new book, GM's Motorama.
Theres one someone might enjoy.... just seemed, unique.... http://1966batvehicles.yuku.com/topic/3276/t/Futura-influenced-kitcar.html <-----link to thread
Enough of the ugly ones, lets get back to the nice ones. TwoChops ----------------------------------------------------------- Barris getting ready for a parade
I took these photos of a photo album that Bill Worden had with him at the Sacramento Autorama Bill is the guy that restored the Barris built Ralph Testa Mercury...
it was called the polynesian, i found one pic online from an old mag. article calling it such...but when you do internet searches, it finds a different kustom by the same name, i think its an earlly 50s chev if i remember corectly.
Here is a price list I picked up at Barris' shop on one of my sightseeing trips to Lynwood to see what they were building. It shows the same car on the cover....
what a great thread, thanks to everyones pictures and stories!!!!! its great to see some of the cars are still alive and kicking. the pictures are priceless!!!!!!
don't know if it is the same one or a clone but something like this was at the chicago world of wheels this year.
Here's an old Kustom Hudson called Night Train that I saw at Mueller's Muscle cars in San Berdoo.Ed showed me some old magazines and pic's of it in its glory days.I think he's finally going to get work on it and put it back the way it was.
Here's my 51 Merc mild Kustom the way it looked in Carcraft July 1957 and the way it looks today at the Sacramento Autorama 2009.I don't know who built it?
This is the car most think of as the Polynesian. I took these last fall at the Auburn Concourse. This is probably the car that comes up when you do a search. Tom
I found this while surfing looking for old pics. Never knew the Hirohata was ever hit. It kind of pains me a little to see this.
