aquired an 8ba motor, what trans is this?

    got this 8ba last week, what the hell trans is this, it is the first time i have seen one

    That is a '38-'39 Lincoln Zephyr tranny. The shifter is off set to allow the "stick" to be routed through the consol from the dash to the floor.

    Its normal gearset is the same 28 tooth set with brass blocker synchros that Ford got in 1939. It is functionally equivalent to a '39 Ford trans, with same range of interchange of gears.
    Original shifter handle looks like someone took a shifter from an Ed Roth picture and left it sitting on the railroad tracks. It put the knob right at the wheel, an attempt at the same convenience sough with column shift.
     
  5. If you don't want to use that Zephyr trans, you won't have any trouble finding a good home for it.
