Bob, Thanks for the history! That's what makes this thread even better--a story behind the pic(s)! Regards, Pete
" ... did we 'miss' anyone ... from this annual"? No, actually Pete, based on that entry list, I don't really think we did! Here's why .... Our humble Junior Stock 'LIST' was originally created to acknowledge, recall, and commemorate the efforts of those racers who brought us so many smiles -- and they still serve to entertain and enlighten many of us! It began with just a handful of well-know names … Jere, ‘Archie,’ ‘Big John,’ ‘Little George’ and ‘Spider’ were obvious early entries. The nicknames were dropped shortly after I began posting it … hence you won’t see ‘Doc,’ ‘Lil,’ ‘Pop,’ ‘Mousy,’ ‘Ace,’ ‘Grumpy,’ etc. on ‘our’ most-recent list. And it most-certainly is ‘our’ list … developed, refined, critiqued and expanded-on only by the H.A.M.B. members of this thread. The names have been added as the images were discovered, or the racers ‘nominated’ by members, friends, or family members. Lets keep it that way! So ... if you see a name or two on the entry list posted by Pete that really resonates with you, feel free to ‘nominate’ that racer. ‘Our’ list is, by no means an attempt to identify all of the Junior Stock racers from that exciting and tumultuous (1962-1972) decade. I’m pretty sure the actual number could exceed *three thousand! *I guess that’s one reason that this thread still survives! Thanks! … Steve
Thanks for the compliment on my paint job. "JIM THE PAINTER" from Phily did the lettering. I've seen him at a few car shows and he's still at it.
We use to use a cheese grader body file held against the edge of the tire while the tire was spinning and the back of the car was on jack stands. Someone ran the engine while in gear at a moderate speed while I held the file against the tire. Was I crazy? This was done fairly often as the tire always seemed to grow.
Steve; That race was our first nationak event class win. Any chance that DVD may have any footage of the 'GIANT' on it? Willing to pay for a copy if it does. Thanks, Ken
One name I believe that is missing is Dick Griffin from Lansing, MI. Dick was the founder of the "CHEVAIRS". The Chevairs dominated the Nationals in 1964-65 era, with names like Chisholm, Callender. Kahl, Hanes just to name a few.
Ken ... Jim Amos (BeeOnVideo) ended up transferring my Bristol '66 8mm film to DVD for me, but I don't think there is footage of your wagon on it. Still, I'll take a closer look, and if it is, I'll be be glad to send you a (freebe) copy.
WOW!!!!! The '57 Wagon pictured here(page125) with the "For Sale" sign is the car in the make-shift garage that I was telling you guys about. The headline has the name of the brothers spelled incorrectly (I think). My buddy was the owner after this race or sometime very close. Wait until he sees this! HE bought it just as you see it pictyred minus the motor. Gotta go for now but I'll be back soon. Thanks, Dave.
fantastic!! we now have tony janes and chuck norton contributing to this thread, now lets get some other div. 7 former jr. stock heros involved! how about it joe allred, marv ripes sonny bryant, tim neja?
How about adding another name to the list of Junior Stockers--- Sonny Freeman in the F/S 1969 Olds W31 from Anderson Olds in Baltimore, Md. This car will be at the York U.S. 30 Reunion. Thanks again, Dave Siltman.
You mean like this ... ... cept, I don't remember Tony using JACK STANDS! *took this shot just a few minutes after I grabbed the one of your 4-dr H/T car!
Has anyone posted the class winners from the 1967 Spring nationals at Bristol? My search on the thread did not come up with anything, but I may have overlooked it.
In case anyone's interested in being the new owner of this fine piece of literature: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=3869820#post3869820 Regards, Pete

TO ALL re: post # 2388 I have to thank everyone that has taken the time to stick with this thread and add their stories. When I made the request I was hoping that those that are not members, but take the time to read and follow what is going on would decide to join. None the less, thank you to those that are responsible for the last 8 pages being added. Re post# 2431 -The tall guy in the center-John Mason AKA "The Mangler", you may have gotten better looking as you got older but....the only missing from that picture is the board with your number and the police station on it!!!!! Thanks again John for your now "west coast "input. We miss you in N.J. Dom Rinaldi
Hah! The infamous "Pate's Tapes" 1962 wagon! That car was pulled out of a garage in Temple City about two years ago with four flat tires and everything else timeworn but intact. It's a true "barn find". I'll let Tony Janes complete the story since he drove the car at one time. An acquaintance of ours found it and bought it for a astonishingly reasonable price. We're hopeful that it will see complete restoration but restored or not, it's a real piece of Southern California/Irwindale Raceway Junior Stock history! c
