So the Man tells me to get my ass to LA. I have work to do. He puts me up in the usual accomodations near the office and tells me I can't rent a car. :(

So I'm hanging out in Torrence, around 190th and S. Western Ave. Kinda bored but little time to play. I did reserve a car for the weekend, though.

What's happening in the LA area this weekend? Any cruise-in or shows? Where's the good hang out for a Tejas Hoodlum? I wanna see something besides Rodeo Drive and the Hollywood sign.

    Gracias mi amigos!

Damn- That's less than a mile from where I grew up- and where my dad still lives- but we are heading to the TRK Drags in Bakersfield.

That sucks. Be sure to get pics though!

  4. If you have a rental car drive it up to Bakersfield for the Dragfest, you won't regret it. It's not the best thing happening in LA this weekend, it's the best thing happening in the world!

Dang! I wanted to come see you guys. How far is Bakersfield?

No worries, Little Girl. I'll score you a T-shirt if I run across one.

Breakfast at Cisco Burger in Long Beach. Peterson museum in downtown LA. Moon Equipment in Santa Fe Springs. NHRA museum in Pomona. Early Ford Store in San Dimas. Lots of other stuff. Plot them on a map and make the rounds.

Hmmm... That might be an idea. I could make a day trip of that.

Anyone care to advise me on when I should try to arrive and what to see along the way? I hate looking like a tourist, but if I have to, I might as well do it right.

Ah Shit. Now I have to make a decision! I hate it when that happens.

  10. Ruby's in Redondo gets about 200 cars on Friday evening from about 5:00 to 7:30, Saturday mornings the Caffeine Cruisers meet at about 7:30 AM until 9:00 at the Starbucks at Hawthorne and 190th. Usually 100 - 125 cars. These are both fairly close to the place your staying. I'll be at both, look for a guy with a cowboy hat full of car pins and say hi. Also, a bit of a drive, Saturday morning at the Adams Donut shop on Magnolia and Adams the onut Derelicts meet. About 250 cars from 5:30 until 8:30 AM, and the anti-donut breakfast up the street on Magnolia - mostly HAMB guys - at about 7:AM. I think it's Pappa Z's. Enjoy.

OK, I have a plan. I'll hit a couple of breakfast spots Saturday before heading for Dragfest. I can catch the museums on Sunday.

I may not get out early enough to make Ruby's on Friday night. What else might be going on a little later?

Denise, I need a topless cruis'n buddy. What zip code are you in?

That would be way cool. I never go to Bob's, but I'll have to make it if you make that happen. Keep us updated.

  15. How's about we see if we can get Scott a ride to Dragfest? I say go to Bob's Big Boy on Friday night, Dragfest all Saturday, and nod around the museum(s) Sunday.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

If you go to Bakersfield, you should stop by and see Winfield. I think he's having a workshop this weekend at his place in Mojave.

I believe most folks in Louisiana or Lower Alabama refer to their areas as "X" when writing-- you know, same as their signatures.

    Sorry, i couldn't help it :D

The Pasadena Roadster Club Reliability Run is on Saturday morning. About 100 traditional roadster only cars take off for a 100 mile jaunt. I was late signing up and planned to scoot over to see if I could join, but SCTA business called on Monday and blew my Saturday all to hell.

  26. Warner is right, Scotty. I think the PRCRR starts at the Rose Bowl. If ya lot traditional stuff, this is the real deal. Too many good things going on, huh?

LOL, I was planning on dropping by, but that was before I knew you'd be there. Now I may have to reconsider.

    See you in the morning.
