My brother brought home an Edsel

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nowaxn5, Apr 30, 2009.

  1. I like the lines. It is a rare bird. I think I've seen one '60 at a car show. It belongs to FalconMan's brother. He seems to know a lot about them.
1964 Mercury Pea**** blue with a white top would look cool.
    Baby moon. Clean and long.

His wife may think twice before asking for a mini van for kids and groceries. I love it and so will she someday. With the economy, think used

Hey mj40, his wife's pissed 'cuse he didn't tell her he was bying it, and the fact that he's got a '46 tudor, 62 pickup, '63 9 p***. wagon, (all Fords) and now this and only a two stall garage.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission...:D:D

  6. If he had more stalls he'd have more cars and you know it. I have a three stall and have seven. Life is good.

This one was a 2dr. Ford wagon that somebody built out of a wreck. I read about it in Hemmings a few years ago.

Hard to believe but I found 2 1960 Edsels for sale on Craigslis in Wisconsin and Minnesota

    http://madison.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=1960+edsel&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max

    http://rmn.craigslist.org/cto/1112551578.html

I vote for keeping your longroof close to stock with only changes being wheels and paint. Too rare to mess up.
Also those tail lights are the same as the ones used on comets in 1960 if you need lenses.
Good Luck and maybe our wives should meet - mine doesn't seem to like any talk of any old car coming home.

My wife would dig that wagon! She's a longroof and ragtop girl. She loves the '56 Plymouth wagon I have, and I know she'd let me get an additional wagon, if the $$$ was right!

Well, it certainly wasn't on the cheap!
He felt it was fair and I guess that's what matters. It must be nice...

The taillights on the Canadian car were destined to be on the Edsel.

As for the 2-dr wagon, I really do think they ever produced such a species. I chased down such an animal in Denver years ago only to discover it was a '60 Ford Ranch Wagon.
    Still cool though.

Then there is the '60 Ranger hardtop.

I was a few days late to own such a car as my FIRST CAR!
Due to tax delinquency, the IRS seized the property and claimed right to all of the property.
All EDSEL'S and ALL FOR SALE! This was 1984.

    Damn...

Took me 15 years til I got one and my lovely wife bought it for me!

The white with blue roof wagon was just a capture from another web site, Didn't even notice it was a two door.

This site says of only 216 produced and one of only 14 or so known to still exist. If true its a rare bird indeed.

Here is another two toned deal

I just bought this this week, It was the 657th Edsel made the first week of production. I read there are about 70 of these left. It's the only year for the 2dr wagon.

It's kind of cool, but station wagons are for geeks, I was thinking of cutting the top off and putting a hot tub in the back
    .
It would make an awesome Donk.

Tell your brother that I am absolutely GREEN with ENVY. . . Man o' man. . .two rare 60s' Edsels in one week. . .I am a happy, although, envious woman ;)

That is a really rare bird, and while I can see doing MILD customization to it, I, personally wouldn't do anything that couldn't be "undone" (lowered, paint, skirts, that type of thing). . .

FWIW, my $.02. . .OH, and tell yer brother to join the Edsel HAMBers. . .there are more than a few of us around! :D

  25. That's beyond cool. I LOVE any kind of 2 door wagon !!

  26. I can hear the purists screaming :D.. Excuse me. I have to toss my lunch:eek:

I just stumbled across an old article mentioning a convertible. It was black, and there were only 2 black convertibles made. It sold for $70k at auction in 2006.
