Thanks for the warm welcomes! How nice of you to post this photo, Mazooma -- this is my good friend Analisa, who founded the Friends of Johnie's back in 2002. Together we did everything from selling t-shirts to producing a Blasters concert!

Gee..thanks so much, Rob. In my book, this was a do-or-die, I just could not bear to see this come down. Analisa will be pleased to hear that, and you're absolutely right about John, he's on it 24/7. All of us, united with the HAMB, are a force to be reckoned with. We're making history, down to the 50s style carbon-arc searchlights at the Grand Opening and everything!

Thanks to all of you, and to CycloneKevin for his dedication and enthusiasm! I can't believe there are over 50,000 hits on this thread alone?!

  4. Welcome Adriene! Good to see you on the HAMB...

And we couldn't have done it without Burny, who designed tons of cool custom stuff for us: t-shirts, decals, flyers, cruise maps...everything!

I can believe it. Everytime this topic comes back up, I'm right here reading the latest news and the old memories. Even though I'm from Kentucky, I grew up hearing about the Broiler. So when we were asked to send emails to the officials and council people I was there typing away. Why? Because the Broiler is a piece of America and although I've never stepped foot on the ground it's sacred to me.

    Hi guys and gals,
I went by yesterday afternoon and took some pictures of the current condition. Talked to Brian for a while. He says that they should be pouring concrete today.

Wow!! Such a change from seein' it in January, when the sinage was beginning to come down for restoration. Glad I got one of the old tiles when I did. :) Cannot wait!

Thanks K.K. Those are some great shots. It is much different from the Demo Cruise, much of the foundation was in place, What happened between then and now is that much of it would no longer be up to code. The foundation for the entire restaurant will be thicker than the original and the terazzo that is left will be repaired and matched.
I took H.C. to the site when he was down from up north to see it in it's "Getting Repaired" state. The signage is practically all done, The foundation gets poured today in the trash recycling area and some of the kitchen. Next month we'll have all of the concrete work completed.
The lumber has been ordered and on its way so walls will be going up soon and we'll be there to help drive in nails. (It is a drive in after all isn't it?).

A great big welcome to Miss A. Both Miss A's have been on this fight since Johnie's closed down Dec 31,2001. I am proud to be pair of their team and with the help of the HAMB we are getting the building back up and a new drive-in to boot!

We have met a great bunch of people, Burny is one of them and donated his talent to building a website and doing all kinds of artwork. This man is what The Friends of Johnie's is all about. Rob (60 Coupe) gets a kudos as well. He did a real big favor for The Coalition by picking up the Save The Broiler shirts @ Burny's and bringing them out to the Demo Cruise.

Danny White (Del Torro here on the HAMB) is a recent friend, Heck he penned a book about "The Last Rock And Roll Show" and made The Broiler a destination. Google him, he's got a pretty good tour heading out this way in the late summer early fall along Rte 66. Good music and cars for sure! It should stop at The Broiler as well.
And mostly, A big THANK YOU to all of the HAMBers 70k worth of views! That is just too cool!

So guys and dolls, I'm emailing you from the parking lot of the Broiler! Thanks to Jiffy Lubes Free WiFi! They are GREAT neighbors!
Well, Cement is poured and walls and beams are going up, The place looks great!
Jim and I had a walkaround earlier and I even hammered in a few nails,
Can't post any pics right now but I'll try and figure out this new laptop and if I can't I'll email the pics to someone who can = Lol! I'm getting really excited, enough to even pull me away from working on the Cyclone Deuce #1-3. (1st ones Chassis and a replacement body for it and since # 2 was a 21 stud flatty that was sold last year we'll cal this 1 & 3.)
Jim is very excited as well, He spent $50k in lumber and the building is begining to come together. It won't be too long now that we'll be back under the canopy eating grub. Man, that's been a long 7 1/2 yrs!

Keep on checking in and we'll see post progrress reports as they develop.
