    Now thats America....

    beautiful quality pics....

Each one has so much going on they all tell bitchen stories.

Tire fires on the beach...kegs in your van...just like the fifties, just like last nite.

no tires were actually burnt last nite....easy hippies

  4. JJ you have the most amazing pix on the HAMB man.....AWESOME, just the best, thanx for sharin !

A little O/T but one thing I always note when looking at people in vintage pix from the 30s - 50s is that very very FEW are overweight/obese.

    Hmmm.......

Way cool. I remember a friend of my Dad's building a board like that in about '52!

    Thanks!

  11. Better times! Now, most beaches are closed to vehicles. No camping, no fires.

great pictures. Have you ever noticed the lack of obese or overwieght people in photos prior to 1970. Just my observation.

Great pics of early surf culture americana.

I'm guessing by the photos (USMC sign, sand bluffs) that this is San Onofre Beach area of present day camp Pendelton???

Panel mural, kegs, big jugs of wine and a hang at the beach/don't worry about other things attitude are spot on for the "surf bum" mentality.

Wait, you mean to tell me that guys in the 50's didnt really all have pompadours, long sideburns, full tattoo sleeves, and cuffed jeans? And the ladies didnt all have betty page bangs, tattoo's, and carry parasol umbrellas?

    These pictures must be fake.....

Haha, awesome photo collection, these are a real treasure.

That's exactly how things were for my folks! Except, instead of California, they lived in New Mexico. And instead of being at the beach they went to farmer's fields. And instead of surfing they were picking vegetables, but other than that, it's exactly the same! Thanks for sharing!
