Hahaha! That's my favorite pic! Jug wine on the beach.

    Great pics Jalopy Junkie!

Oh and they were called beatniks before hippies. I thought I spied a Jack Kerouac book and bongos in the background of one of the pics!:D

Wow...posted these late last night and havent checked back in until now, glad you enjoyed the pics...I'm surprised there was this much feedback!

Yes those days are gone forever in a sense, but Ive got to go with nowaxn5...times like this still exist, just not in southern calif.[too crowded]

So get away from the crowds, leave McDonalds behind, find a deserted beach, drive your old car down with your friends or family, have a cookout, surf, drink out of a jug,or even burn a tire if you want[just dont get caught].Dont be cynical, maby in your life you just might look back 30yrs from now and say"those were the good ol days":D

  4. i think these pics are of a bunch of soldiers and families

they are all fit and haircuts are short and ready to party not far from base this beach is privy to them
thats a chute over the car...

Dig the Old photos as well. Keep em coming...
I especially like the one with the teardrop camper. I just bought one a few months ago. Its a 1956. Im planning on painting it up 50's style and hitching it to my 41 Chevy Coupe and hauling it to local shows and some day outings to make some memories of my own.

I would love to go back in a time machine to those beach days..

Just throwing in my thanks for these great photos. Life was great then. It can be great now, just takes a lot more effort.

Oh yeah,----How about that "Hilo Hatte'" HAT???----Also how many of you recognize those LONG surfboards that were made out of WOOD???-------Don

Do any of you know why they called Huntington Beach "TIN CAN BEACH"??????

Well, back during WWII, when thousands of people were heading to SOCAL to work in the many defense plants, shipyards, aircraft, auto, etc.----There was a housing shortage to accomodate the big influx of workers, so hundreds pitched their own tents down at the Huntington Beach area, back then, ecology was a word in the dictionary, so every day, more & more freshly opened tin cans were amasing all over the beach area, after the war, the whole area was dramaticly cleaned up!!!----Hence the name---TIN CAN BEACH----Don

looking at our old family slides at the beach everyone was fit looking and had short hair. Long hair was at least 10 years in the future young fella...:D
Constant cigarette smoking kept you looking fit ,it is only in later life it kills you.:D:D
