So I went to a farm auction today to try to buy a POS 4 door '57 New Yorker with a 392 Hemi. Motor was complete but seized.

Well frick I couldn't get my hand out of my pocket to bid. My comfort level was $1500 and my "oh my god what did I just do" price was $2000.

In less than 1 minute it sold for $3250.

    What happened to the resession?

Had a few Hemis through the years: 67 Coronet R/T convertible, 69 Superbee and a 71 hemicuda.

  4. That was a few years ago. The Dodge made it's way up to Jeff Norwell. I've picked up three more 354's for a total of five.

Guys, I'm slobbering like Pavlov's dog, looking at all these great Hemis, coupes & roadsters. WOW! I cut my driving teeth on 3 DeSoto Hemis in the mid- and late '60s, SO there is, of course, nothing else that compares to a Hemi. Sure, our family had 440 New Yorker, 390 Merc, 355 Buick Wildcat, 303 Rocket, 389 Pontiac, 350 Olds & Pontiac. Those just weren't Hemis, right? Though I still have my first car, a '55 Fireflite 291 Carter-4 low-deck, my true love was my dad's 330 DeS '56 hi-deck. What torque! So, my dream is to find and build another one; the HAMB boys have been SUPER helpful with advice. If I succeed, the probable target is my '38 Plymouth fordoor (yeah, I know the stock steering will take major-ass modification; but, one challenge at a time!). Meantime, I can still feast my eyes on those big '55 Hemi valve covers! When I look at all the scars on my hands & knuckles, I still wouldn't trade the memories of all the motors wrestled in-&-out of cars! We ALL know it's an addiction & a labor of love, BUT it seems ironic that it takes so darn much cussin' to get some things to FIT !!!! LOL -- Jimi'sHemi291, FNG

Got the original 291 in my '55 Fireflite, as well as a spare 291 firedome engine that I picked up off of ebay a few weeks ago.

The fireflite engine ain't much to look at now, but somewhere down the line it'll be getting a mild rebuild with a 4x2 manifold and carbs- which should help move that big boat down the road a little quicker.

Hahaha, go ahead Scooter. You can rip away I will enjoy every bit of it!!! I don't get sore about it. Stroked, Blown, Polished, Molested... whatever!!!

The truth of the matter is that I was going to run that 331 in my coupe but have now decided to use a 303 Olds that I got in trade for my Radir wheels. So the HEMI has no use right now until I can find a full fendered Model A that I can plop it in, it shall stare at me with the look of abandonment from the corner of my garage.

Oh man.... you REALLLLLLY don't want me to start!! :D:D If I did it would start with rocker lubrication and small orifices...:eek: Next time I see you we'll just have a chat...:D

Not having a car to put it in, is no excuse! That would look GREAT in your living room on a run stand!! When your wife is running the blender you can run the Hemi. OR! You can hook it UP to the blender and you can BOTH be happy!! Smoothies anyone??

I am sure that Denise has a program that notifies here when the word Smoothie pops up on the HAMB. You can expect her to chime in on this thread in 3..2...1...

I have a '53 331 that did run in the Town & Country wagon I pulled it out of, and now it is in my 29 coupe, but won't be ready to run again for a while.

Well, my son and I have a Desoto 276/291/330. The original 276 he bought had slight block crackage, now we're starting out with a 291, and adding 330 heads in the mix. I'm still looking for a good Desoto oilpan. Trying to talk Hamilton Intakes into casting some finned pans?
