If you don't like this you are most likey an A-Type person...good luck with that. The fact that its on Rte.66 just makes it that much more not to mention in the state of Texas...(cadville and cows). If you need an explaination and are asking the question "why" you probadly won't understand anyway. The painting of it isn't that cool and I really hate it when a euro flag is stuck on a bumper...I always take them down an trash'em! MADE IN AMERICA...

Stock caddies sticking out of the ground in '72 was a GREAT idea. Using junk economy cars for the "car henge" thing looks cheap. But, I've got to say, 99.9999% of Graffiti art ****S ****. I'm !@#$in' sick of it man. I rode through LA last weekend and the man made river beds that used to look so cool in movies are covered with **** "graffiti". Many of the neat old buildings are the same way. Trash everywhere...I'm usually pretty open minded when it comes to art but, I just don't get it.

Don't you know what inspired the "Cadillac Range" in the movie CARS? :D

  5. The graffiti is encouraged, it's part of the evolution of the work. There are always spray cans and markers laying around.

The entire sculpture has been repainted many times, including being painted entirely pink for breast cancer awareness.

Lamenting the few Cadillacs that have been given new life by being turned into sculpture? How about the 10's of thousands that have been crushed?

If the artist wanted it that way with people painting it...ok, I don't like it! If I caught someone painting over MY work I would punch them right in the @$#%ing face!

  7. I did think that this was a cool tribute to it, though. :D

Maybe someone could do a cropduster flyover with a payload of aircraft paint stripper ... followed an hour later by a fire plane payload of fresh lake water ... The graffiti kills it for me, even if it is an "evolving artwork/performance piece".

I always though it was very cool art but what a shame to see it vandalized, says a lot...

Pete! Hey, you helped me out a couple months back by putting me in contact with a guy up in Washington who had my tail lights!
    Thanks again

If it's got cars in it, then I ****in' love it.

And I have been there twice...
Early, before and later, after the grafitti...
    Both were excellent experiences.

    Next, Car Henge! Never been...
    I need a road trip!

I think you pay like $5 and the owners give you the paint to "customize" these cars. I have not seen it myself but from the pictures I have seen I would be pissed if it was across the street from my house. Looks to be an eyesore IMO.

Wow,hate to dig up an old thread, and being a Caddy guy,I have to say I like it as art work, and to the people complaining about the pieces being taken or the graffiti,I guess you don't get what "evolving artwork" means.
Evolving artwork,or progressive artwork or performance piece is a piece that someone starts, like Cadillac Ranch, that is open for modification or added to.So I don't see the graffiti as disrespectful,it's all in evolution of the piece.

Some people just don't get art.

Now,has anyone been out to see the Cars On A Spike?

Yeah, Graffiti has lost it's luster, there are very few good artists, a lot of ****. Mostly BS gang tags now. I never thought I would miss decent Graffiti.

I've always wanted to go to Cadillac Ranch, and probably will finally make the trip in 2010 in my 53 Cadillac.

What are the chances of getting pictures of my Cadillac "next" to this? (Obviously, this would have to be arranged in advance). Is there an access road for cars?

    Thanks
    Charles

me and my ol lady stumbled across the cadillac ranch about a month ago if you arent looking for it you will easily miss it...at te time that this was done im sure those cars were worthless...about the same as us taking hondas and toyotas now and doing it...i thought this place was relly cool and the guy who did it is even cooler...the way he leaves it open to public and lets people do al the grafiti...look the guy up hes pretty crazy...ive read stories of him catching kids stealing parts and he catches them and makes them work them off before he releases them...

I remember when the cars were put in. I just LOVED it. But when I saw it a few year ago, all trashed and tagged, it just pissed me off. Now it says more about Americans in general than "art" I think. Evidently we are all just abunch of disrepectful, self-centered, idiots. The place should be buldozed now, as it certainly can't be restored (as other works of art would be if vandalized). Gary

Cadillac Ranch is cool as hell.
If I ever win the lottery I will be doing the same thing but with Ferrari's, Lamborghini's,cobras,GT 40 and anything else I can buy and stick in the ground.

We have the right to hate things that we do not appreciate. Maybe the guy is thumbing his nose at the city. I say good for him. Hell, it is free to get in the place to top it off.:eek:

I wished we could of bought a T shirt.

Visited the Cads on my Route 66 trip a few years ago. Made the whole trip from Santa Monica Pier to Chicago. Not sure if it's art or not. My wife (the artist) says it is. Not sure if I would make the trip just to see it but wouldn't miss it if I was in the neighborhood.
The first photo is the "Bug Ranch" not far.

The owner paints the car every year and people paint them up. Its actually fun to paint on them.
