I'm jealous now. My wife grandad has a very nice Model-A I don't think I'll ever get it. Happy Building.

  10. First of all: THANKS FOR ALL THOSE PHOTOS and for Your decision to let it go to someone that will make a car out of it again.

Second Thing: THATS NOT ALL THAT RUSTY,had this one been parked like that for 50 years here in Sweden it would probably been just the roof left to find.

BUT: I'm in with Doc on this matter with the engine choice, please ask the new owner not to do that, wasn't there a Olds engine and trans in that deal USE THAT pleeeeeease, not that SBC's are bad engines but there are all over the place and Olds engines are not.

Keep those pic's coming and I will not get my ass out to the shop today as usual, the H.A.M.B. has made me a computer-addict BIG TIME...

Thanks for the post and photo documentation. Very kool stuff....

It's funny, At the beginning of the post I thought to myself... "I hope there won't be a phone call to TCI for a frame with 4 link and disc brakes, then to Budnik for the latest 24 inch wheels with rubber band tires, paint it the last shade of Acura Red, cover the upholstery in kangaroo hyde and GM for a crate motor and triple overdrive trans. Judging by the frame, I guess a new frame would be smart. Now, I'm sure I'll take shit from the SBC lovers out there but, if it were mine. That Olds drivetrain would work for me. Another possible case of high dollar car/low dollar drivetrain..

    Cool thread, Thanx' for sharing...

Amazing what tin is still out there...

There's a guy in our city that is supposed to have 6-7 complete '32 Fords
stashed away in dry storage. Hoping to retire with their sale.

This kind of stuff is apparently still out there...

    I have a '69 Camaro, as well.
Been in the family for thirty years.
But always looking for the next project.

Too bad it could not have been removed from that garage 30 years sooner as the 57 plymouth from the time capsule in Tulsa looks to be in better shape and it sat under water its whole life,it is the first car I have seen pulled out of a garage that that would of been in better shape if it sat outside. I cant wait to see some pics of it done and if I would of seen that after unburying it I would of went running as fast as I could since my body work skills are not good enough to get it back in shape and definately would not have the money to pay to get it done.

Guys, thanks again for all of the kind words. I know that everybody here has their own opinion of how the car should be finished, but it's not my car, so I have no say in the matter. These guys DO know what they are doing, and are going to do what they think is best for the car.
IMO, a flat head motor would be great, but this project is pricy, and they don't want to be upsidedown in it. Not my call, and the sbc I believe they already had, so that's that.
The Olds motor is very cool, but after 49 years on a cement floor, nobody wants to try and tear it down. It's been for sale here for over a month without even a negitive comment. The '60 Olds guru told me that as well.
As I said before, if anybody wants it, give me a shout. I think that after 3 days in a vat of Marvel Mystery Oil, it may loosen up. You never know.

I am really disappointed after following this thread for 9 pages to find out the guy is going to install a stinking SBC. What a waste of a true hot rod treasure. He is probably going to Ebay the artillery wheels , then install Foose or Coddington's.

PLEEEZ don't put a small block chevy or a large block chevy in it. Say "YES" to a nailhead, flatty, traditional hemi. Caddy.

I've read every page up to here. About half way through the thread the tought occured to me "I really hope they don't turn this car into another streetrod-thing"...
The first nail into the coffin is talk of an uninspiring sbc and tremec transmission... PLEASE don't tell me/us that this is going to be just another billetqueen :(
Why not just rebuild the Olds motor?
I understand the current owner has his plans and budget perhaps, but sometimes people just could use some education as to what is 'better' for the car. The car certainly 'deserves' better imo.

Anyway, good topic, thanks for the pics and sharing.

Andy, thanks for taking the time to come over and post these pics for us to enjoy. What a fantastic find. I wish they would reconsider the engine choice, but that's not our decision. What do they plan to do with the car when it's completed?

Dude, have you not been reading this thread? The Olds motor is toast!
How would you suggest they rebuild a motor that has been slowly rusting internally for 49 years. The cost of replacing the rotating assembly is one thing, but the time needed just to tear it down...please.
I will forward your concerns to Dave.

Andy, First off thanks for bringing us this unique story of a very desireable car. Any hot rodder worth his salt will at the least perk up at the mention of a '32 ford 3w. Second, please don't get discouraged by the negative posts concerning the small block Chevy. It's a TRADITIONAL engine after 54 years of production but there are those who just cannot accept that fact. And, you'll find that most of the naysayers don't own anything better so spouting off is all they have to contribute.
I've owned over 20 Camaros in my car days so I appreciate yours. I gave my kid an origonal '69 Z-28 for his 16th birthday and it's still in the family 28 years later and being redone once more by him and my grandson.
Like most others here I'm anxious for you to continue the story of the rebirth of this '32. Keep posting as the progress continues.

    Frank

I know it's bad for your first post to not be an introduction (I'll post one soon, I promise) but this story hits way to close to home. In fact I'm almost positive I spent a good part of my teenage years trying to find Ed and this car.

I grew up in Canal Winchester with relatives all over the south end of Columbus and Grove City. I remember going to Green Gables for strawberry pie, BBF, and Burger Chef as a kid. My Dad and one uncle were into cars, and I lived for going to Jerry's drive in on Saturday nights and other cruises all over central Ohio and always was nuts for a Duece. I first heard the story of some guy that parked a 32 in the garage back in the 50's when I was 12 or so. It was always rumored to be in the south end or Grove City. I always asked about it around the rodders but either no one knew the exact location or took me serious from the time I was 12 to 18ish. Then college came and I faded away from rods, out of school I got in to old Jeeps, British cars and bikes. Now at 43 I've decided it's time to go back to my first love and start researching it and find this story. Part of me feels cheated, but part of me is happy for the car... errrr make that was happy.

A SBC??? Crap. Here I thought it was going to be restored. I'm no restorer but I rather see it go bone stock over just another SBC.

I rather see Dave finish what Ed intended. If not with the original Olds motor but another. At minimum do a faux Old Rocket motor with the Chevy, at least that's slightly better.

On the subject of the Olds motor, no I can't imagine you'll get many hits on that at two grand asking. But believe me folks would jump at the chance to save that motor at a reasonable price for its condition.

I'm not blaming you Andy, but please tell Dave to reconsider his drivetrain options. Also, could you tell me what part of town the Duece was in to ease my mind, please? General location is fine, I'm not looking to hunt anyone down.

One last question, who's the guy in the Dr. Pepper sweatshirt? Is his name Bill by chance?(family and close friends call him Junior) I swear it looks like one of my uncles. If it is, he's gonna hear from me for not letting me know about this, I'd been willing to help dig it out just to get up close to that history.

Thanks for the story and photos, and memories in my case. And try to work on Dave for us all.

    Jack

Leaky roof done it in plus all the junk around it held moisture, the roof must of leaked when it was first put in it and if it sat there 10 years longer there would not be much left to work with. I hope there was a price reduction when it was seen that it was not as nice as was thought,if I seen that I would of passed and put the junk back in the garage and said thanks but no thanks and looked for another because I dont have that good of body work skills and what it sold for would of taken all I had and no money left to repair and would of been a expensive title and body tag. I cant wait to see it done and I too dont want to see it become a belly button street rod but too each his own.

Yet you are still trying to get $2000 out of it??

I lean towards agreement with previous posts regarding smoking crack. Pass on a '32 3w over a crapmaro then expect someone to bend over and take it fot that engine...hmmm, I see why the movie wouldn't work with the old men in the locker room. Must have been brokeback health club or something.
