Still sorting through all the pics in that box full of stuff that Dad gave me a couple weekends ago.... In addition to all the great drag racing shots there was a handful of shots that he took at shows here and there, back in the day. The black and white pics below were taken at a show held at the Village Shopping Center in Davenport Iowa back in 1956, while the color shots are from another (possibly in the same location) a few years later ('59-60?).... BTW, they have been color corrected too
Great pictures. I really like the last one. Since you say that the color ones are from 1959-60, it makes me wonder why the guy in the Model A roadster is still using a Flathead. Sort of strange.
I'm constantly changing the settings on my camera to black and white.. The pics seem to take on a timeless effect. I think I take more like that, than I do color ones.
Oh, hey, I almost forgot...... Speaking of mild customs, also in that box of photos was a few shots of Dad's mildly customized '50 Olds four-door daily driver. These pics are from late '56 / early '57....... The car was nosed and decked, had a '55 Chevy grille, slightly lowered and featured a few other mild touches... Color was metallic green.
We know where you are Marty! Those are great pics and your Dad was a true car guy. From a Spotlight escapee!
Looks like the headlights were slightly "hooded" too. Great pics! The Black and gold Plymouth almost looks chopped, what a wild roof line. That burgundy 40 Ford is really nice.
Man what trip back in time! Your Dad was on the ball with that camera. Thanks for the post. Oh Ya I saw almost as many More Door mild kustoms growing up as I did 2 doors! But what do I know I was only born in 1945.
Dad found a new batch of pics for me to add to this thread... He's not 100% sure when or where most of these were taken, though it appears some may have been taken in the spectator lot at the drags, while others wee just cars on the street that he liked and took photos of...
Marty, really appreciate you sharing the photos with us. Good to see local, every day driver customs from anywhere. Thanks.
great photos,of some old school stuff, back in the day seems alot different to now.Not one ride was touching the ground,so much for it has to be slammed.
Marty, Thanks so much for sharing these. That four door Olds is NUTS. Have a good time finding more. Slim
That Plymouth looks like "Christines" eviler sister.. The one in front of the Fannie Mae Candies is really interesting too..
