A bit O/T, but have you ever seen a DeLorean in a junkyard?

I think DeLoreans are stupid, but it's not every day you bump into one at your local pick-a-part.

That is odd. Did you know that the design was a rejected Bricklin prototype?

Too bad somebody already got the "flux capacitor" off of it. :(

  5. I never really got either one of those cars, Bricklin or DeLorean. Ugly, overpriced, cars for guys who would dump one fast for a Porsche Targa. dokay.

Kinda like the idea of a Chinese made MG, what the hell was really the point? Affordable? Maybe, but still too far off the mark to make any sense.

  6. You know I knew one of the guys that claimed to be in on building those movie cars, or maybe just the ones headed for an amu*****t park in Florida.

He owned the first Muntz I ever saw.

Where were going we don't need roads!

  9. I saw one quite a few years ago in a yard.

If the body panels, etc are typical Pick Yard prices ($30-40) I'd get to stripping it out asap.

I can pretty much guarantee there is a market for those parts. Wrecking one out is the only way to get any parts for it.

    actually not true....
you can pretty much get ANY part from DMC i think in dallas...
they bought all the parts when the plants shut down...

100's of complete body 1000's of door/fenders and so on.. they actually "remanufacture" them like buying a mexican beetle....

  12. I didn't know anyone carried on with them. I'd still think there was a market for the parts used. Its got to be cheaper than new parts.

    If not let it rot.

    I learned something new today.
    Thanks!

Stan and Steve Smith are racing there right now to get the p***enger side door. (We'll see if anyone gets that)

That is quite unusual though. Definitely some valueable parts on that car yet, it is quite strange to see one in a junkyard. Almost looks like it was burned in the front. I would guess someone will either try to buy it whole or completely strip it clean in place.

Those things had Renault engines, the only way it would reach 88 MPH is if it was pushed out the back of a C-130!!!

  19. There's one in a junkyard right before the Chicago-bound Skyway offramp on I94, at that junkyard that always has a bunch of Mercedes Benz's.

It wasn't rejected, they made the SV-1 for 2 years then went belly up. DeLorean. The big difference was the Bricklin was front engine, the DMC rear.

no clue. Renault makes some pretty good engines, the Nissan 350Z has one.

I would have stripped the rest of it and sold off anything useable. Unfortunately once cars hit the yards in CA and are in the system as being junked/s****ped that is it, there is no coming back; they can't be put back on the road. Even if you don't make a profit on the parts you could be helping someone out who may be restoring one

I know a guy who got a 57 Plymouth two dr out of the local pick n pull. Everything but the frame, they wouldn't sell him that. He stripped the front clip and all else he could unbolt one day and came back the next for the shell and the rest.
